How To Install Canon Ink Cartridges

When you open a new Canon cartridge, most have some plastic wrap surrounding the cartridge that must be removed before installation. You might also see a plastic clip on the bottom of the cartridge and / or a piece of tape on the top of the cartridge. These components also need to be removed. We recommend removing both over a trash can, as some ink might escape during the process. If your cartridge does not have a clip, dont worry about it! Not all cartridges will have them.

The installation steps below are for a Canon PG-260 cartridge in the Canon PIXMA TS6420 printer. The steps may be slightly different depending on what printer you have, but the general process is the same across all printer models. Its also worth mentioning that standard yield cartridges and higher yield cartridges install in your printer the exact same way. The only difference between the cartridge sizes is the amount of ink thats inside. The actual cartridge shell that holds the ink is the same size for standard and high yield cartridges, so there is no difference in the installation process.

  • Open the new cartridge and remove the plastic wrap.
  • Over a trash can, pull off the orange tape on the side of the cartridge and throw it away. Removing the tape will expose the vent hole on the side of the cartridge so it can work in the printer.
  • Insert the new cartridge into the slot and pull the latch back over the cartridge so it is secure.
  • Decide On Whether You Want Standard Or High

Ink cartridges are designated as standard or high-yield depending on the expected page-yield i.e. an approximate number of pages they can actually print before running dry.

Once youve found an exact cartridge number match, you should:

    • Choose a standard ink cartridge with comparatively low page-yield if you print occasionally. These ink cartridges are ideal for light-duty in homes.
    • Choose XL or XXL ink cartridge with more page-yield if you print often. These ink cartridges are suitable for heavy-duty in homes/offices and can save you up to 50% in per-page printing cost.

Do keep in mind that ink cartridge manufacturers consider a 5% print coverage area for estimating expected page-yield. When you print documents having ink in more than 5% area, you should expect lesser page-yield.

Printer manufacturing companies sell high-yield ink cartridges for select models only. But you may find a third-party ink seller offering high-yield ink cartridges for models that have been excluded by the printer manufacturer.

      Individual Hp Ink Cartridges

How often to print. Ink waste and printer maintenance for photo inkjet printers

A set of individual ink cartridges consists of four separate color ink tanks available in black, cyan magenta and yellow. There are two big differences between these cartridges and the black and tri-color cartridges we just reviewed. The first difference is the cost savings of replacing each cartridge color separately. Many printer users prefer individual ink cartridges because each color can be replaced as needed. This ends up being far more cost effective than replacing a tri-color cartridge that needs to be replaced when any color is low. Another major difference is the location of the printhead. We mentioned earlier that black and tri-color cartridges have an integrated printhead that is built into the cartridge. Individual ink cartridges do not have a built-in printhead. Instead, the printhead is built into the printer. Both types of printheads work equally well, but its important to note, if you buy a printer with a built-in printhead, it may wear out over time and need to be replaced. Often the cost of replacing a printhead is more expensive than buying a new printer, so keep that in mind when weighing your printer options. Routine maintenance will keep your printer and printheads running smoothly. For some simple cleaning and maintenance tips, check out the HP printhead cleaning section later in this article.

    • Locate the Menu or Home button and use the appropriate navigation keys to find a status, settings, or reports section.
    • The ink or toner levels are displayed on the printer’s LCD screen. If not displayed on the LCD screen, you may need to print a System Data or Status page to see current ink or toner levels.
    • Depending on the printer brand and model, in step 2, you may need to navigate further to an ink or toner levels section.

Which Type Of Ink Cartridge Should I Use In My Printer

It is inevitable that at some point you will need to replace your printers ink cartridges.

When this time comes, the overwhelming amount of options available to you can be confusing. Choosing the right printer cartridge is essential as if you make the wrong decision, it can cause costly damage.

While it may seem tempting to go for the cheapest printer ink you can find, there are many reasons why you should resist the urge.

Third party cartridges are ink cartridges that arent produced by the manufacturer of your printer, but rather by another company without professional experience. While their smaller price tag can seem very attractive, there is a risk attached.

Read on to find out why it is in your best interest to spend a little more on genuine ink cartridges direct from your printer manufacturer, when it comes to replacing your ink.

How To Troubleshoot Hp Ink Cartridges

What ink do I need for my printer?

How to fix streaky or light prints

The best way to troubleshoot streaky prints is to run the cleaning function on your printer This is by far the easiest and fastest way to clear up a print quality issue. If you own a printer with a built-in printhead, like an HP 63, you can also try priming the cartridge with the paper towel method. We feature an HP 64 cartridge in the video but the steps are the same for any HP black or tri-color integrated printhead ink cartridge.

To start the paper towel method, grab a warm, damp paper towel and a dry paper towel. Take the warm, damp paper towel and blot the cartridge with the printhead side down onto the towel. You should see ink appearing on the paper towel after blotting a couple of times. Be careful not to confuse the printhead with the gold and copper contacts or dots. After blotting onto the damp paper towel, hold the cartridge against the dry paper towel for 30 seconds to a minute. This process wicks out any dried ink that may be preventing you from a quality print. Once complete, insert the cartridge back in the machine and run a test print. Repeat the process a couple of times for best results. If the second time doesnt improve you can try the printhead cleaning option again, or throw in the towel and buy new cartridges.

To make it easier for you to find the right ink, we broke it down to the five major printer brands. This guide will show you how to find the ink cartridge number on the packaging or your empty cartridge.

What To Do When Printer Ink Is Low

Most often, the estimated ink levels and the low-ink warning signs are only approximations. When the cartridge is low on ink, you can try to remove the cartridge from the slot and rock it from side to side. This will cause any residue ink to flow to the bottom for use. This way, you can obtain a few more prints before the ink runs-out completely. Once the ink is completely exhausted, you can buy either an OEM cartridge or a remanufactured one, which costs approximately half as much as an OEM cartridge. You can also choose a more affordable alternative and buy your from us, we offer free shipping on bulk orders.

In conclusion, it is best for you to continue printing until the quality of the print begins to decline. A poor quality print is an apt indicator of the low ink levels in your printer. Ensure that, at such times, the cartridge is replaced to avoid unwelcome consequences. Conduct periodic checks of ink levels to keep your printer functioning at optimum levels.
