Toner Color Cartridge Troubleshooting | HP Printers | HP

To find which ink or toner cartridges work with your HP printer, select your printer model in the tables listed below. HP ink and toner cartridges are labeled to help distinguish which cartridges work with selected printers. The ink or toner cartridges are listed according to where the printer was manufactured. Some printers use more than one cartridge. For example, an HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One Printer uses an HP 61 Black ink cartridge, as well as an HP 61 Tri-color ink cartridge.

Best Bundle: Gpc Image

When you need a lot of ink, GPC Image has your back. This 12-pack bundle arrived packaged with four black cartridges, two cyan, two magenta, two yellow, and two photo black. Page yield is equal to HP originals, with the black cartridges delivering 550 pages, the color cartridges printing 750 pages, and photo black putting out 290 pages.

Each cartridge in this pack is engineered with a chip to display ink level and to help with smooth installation. We produced beautiful color brochures and black and white documents with this bundle, never questioning the quality. Inks dry quickly, performance is excellent, and we had no smudging during any real-world testing.

The only trouble we encountered came when we tried to figure out how much ink remained in each tank. Though equipped with a chip that gauges this figure automatically, we just couldn’t get it to function without reaching out to customer service. Turns out, power cycling the printer resets the counter. Good to know, though we’d love to see this note added to the instructions.

Can I Use Ink Or Toner Cartridges That Are Not Manufactured By Hp

Some printers, such as HP+ printer models, may require the use of genuine HP ink or toner cartridges. But even if your printer does not require their use, HP still recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner cartridges, as HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges or refilled HP cartridges. Further, certain HP printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or electronic circuitry. These printers use dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or electronic circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. Reused HP chips and electronic circuitry enable the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges. For more information on dynamic securityand how to configure online firmware updates, go to www.hp.com/learn/ds. Also, please note that while the use of a non-HP cartridge does not void the HP Limited Warranty or any HP support contract for the printer, any printer or print head failure or damage that is attributable to the use of a non-HP cartridge will not be covered by the Limited Warranty or any such support contract. What Is A High Yield Ink Cartridge And Why Do They Cost More

High yield ink cartridges have a higher page yield than standard ink cartridges. You can generally print more pages with this cartridge than a standard cartridge. An HP 940 Black Original Ink Cartridge can print 1000 pages, while the HP 940XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge can print 2200 pages. HP printers can use both standard and high yield ink cartridges, as long as the correct ink cartridge model number is selected.

How Long Does Hp Ink Last

HP 58A Standard Capacity Black Toner Cartridge Black CF258A

HP ink cartridges can last for up to two years in their sealed packaging. Even after two years you may still get some use out of the cartridge, so it may be worth trying even after the fact. Your printer will display a low cartridge message when a specific cartridge needs to be replaced. However, you may not need to replace the cartridge right away. To try and extend the life of your ink cartridge, you can run the cleaning function on your printer. This cleans the printhead nozzles in your printer and usually primes the cartridge for a few more prints. You can find the cleaning option under the settings or maintenance section of your printers display. Check your printer manual for specific instructions for your machine. After the cleaning is complete, you can print a test page to see if the print quality has improved. If there is no improvement, run the cleaning a second time. If you still have trouble after the second cleaning, you may need to buy new cartridges. We dont recommend running the cleaning function more than a couple of times since it does use up some of the ink during the cleaning process and can quickly deplete your cartridges if its run over and over again.

Why Does This Happen

With new printer models that are continuously connected to the internet, software and firmware updates are routinely installed. These updates can change the way your printer operates or as in this case add new features.

If you see the message HP cartridges locked and you are experiencing this issue then its very likely that you have recently had a printer update to enable cartridge protection or you have a brand new printer with this feature already built in.

The printer can also be locked if purchased a new printer that can be used on the instant ink service and the screen prompt asked you if you would like to use the service and you clicked yes. This would mean that the printer is locked to instant ink services and any installed from that point would also be locked to the printer.

What Kind Of Ink Does Hp Use

HP fills their ink cartridges with either pigment-based ink or dye-based ink. Pigment-based ink is commonly used in their black ink cartridges because it is better at printing text. Dye-based ink is often used in their color cartridges because it is better at creating the vibrant colors required for photo printing. For example, the HP 63 black cartridge is filled with pigment ink and the 63 tri-color cartridge is filled with dye-based ink. If you want to know what type of ink your HP cartridges use, you can check the specs table of your specific cartridge series on HPs website.

How To Disable Instant Ink Status

If your printer was previously using the HP instant ink service then its likely that your printer is still attempting to connect to the internet each time you print, so that it can check the instant ink status of the cartridges. This can be an annoyance, particularly if it prevents you from printing or means you have to get rid of the message each time before it prints.

To disable the message / checks, you will need to disable webs services and HP ePrint settings. On the printer menu, navigate to settings > Web Service Settings > and set HP ePrint to off and Remove web services. This should prevent the Instant ink checks.

How To Fix Hp Cartridges Locked To Another Printer

by Stuart Deavall | Feb 22, 2017 | How To & Tips |

    Why Did Hp Introduce This

Whilst HP cares about their customers and your satisfaction, they also above all else are a business and need to protect themselves. One of the largest issues that HP have as a business that costs them millions of pounds if not billions over the years is the problem with counterfeit or fake inks being produced and sold across the market.

Counterfeit cartridges, not to be confused with third party or compatible cartridges are completely fake copies of the original HP cartridges and are being sold as though they are the original HP cartridges. This is why HP introduced the update. To protect you as their customer and themselves as a business from counterfeit cartridges.

Also HP now provides a service called instant ink where you pay a monthly fee instead of buying ink one cartridge at a time when you run out and this enables them to make sure you are purchasing genuine HP cartridges.

Unfortunately, this does also stop the use of compatible or remanufactured cartridges, however we are legally entitled to use a compatible or remanufactured cartridge if we choose to so there is a way of switching of cartridge protection and prevent the HP cartridges locked message from appearing.

How To Bypass Hp Instant Ink

If you have purchased a HP instant ink printer and previously used ink cartridges provided by HP during the instant ink service, or maybe even accidentally clicked yes when the screen prompt asked if youd like to set up instant ink then here are some things that you can try to use HP instant inks and printers after cancelling.

  • If your printer was previously used as an instant ink printer and you want to reset it then you will need to use the menu on the printer to go and reset the printer to its default settings . After this has been done, and the printer is started up again, make sure that you select No when prompted to use the instant ink service.
  • Follow the instructions earlier in this article to make sure that cartridge protection is disabled.
  • Change the following setting. On the printer screen go to Setup > Preferences > and set Store anonymous usage information to off or no .
  • Install the ink cartridges.
  • The reason this setting is there is so that HP can track the usage of the cartridges such as when they were installed, what they are , number of pages printed, when they were last used, print mode used and any errors.

    What Cartridge Sizes Are Available

Replacement HP ink cartridges are commonly offered in two sizes, standard yield and high yield or XL. Extra high yield cartridges are an option for some printer series as well but they arent as widely available. No matter which size you go with, the cartridge will install the exact same way in your printer. In fact, the physical cartridge size is the same regardless of the yield the only difference is the amount of ink inside the cartridge. The higher the yield, the more ink you get, which translates to more prints! Higher yield ink cartridges can be more expensive than standard yield cartridges but most offer a lower cost per page, which saves you more money in the long run. To illustrate this, well compare the page yield and price of the HP 962 ink cartridge series. HP printers that work with this series can use HP 962 standard yield, 962XL high yield and 966XL extra high yield ink cartridges. As you can see in the chart below, the HP 962 standard yield is the cheapest cartridge but has the highest cost per page, or highest operating costs. For frequent printer users, it makes sense to pay more for a higher yield cartridge because they offer a better overall value. If you print occasionally, you are fine spending a little less and going with standard yield cartridges.

    Meet The Ink Cartridges

There are two common types of HP ink cartridges. Some HP printers use just two ink cartridges, a black and tri-color, while others work with four individual ink cartridges that come in black, cyan, magenta and yellow. Both types produce high quality text, color and photo prints, but for most printer users, individual ink cartridges offer a better cost savings.
