Can Uncured Resin Go Down A Sink/drain
Never pour the uncured resin into a sink or drain. This may damage the water supply pipes or may disrupt the whole system. Some resins are extremely harmful to aquatic life and pouring them uncured into the drain or sink may lead to harming marine life as well.
If you have uncured resin and or any other remains of it that are considered hazardous waste, cure it properly before throwing it into the trash.
If you choose to, you can either visit your local waste collection centers or call them. These centers can sometimes send a team to collect the material from you and can dispose of it properly.
Depending on your locality, you may not have certain disposal services available so you this isnt always an option.
You should know the right method to dispose of the uncured resin. Some resin manufacturers imprint the recommendations and precautions of disposing of the resin on the bottles labels as well.
If you have an empty resin bottle and you need to get rid of them, swish a little amount of isopropyl alcohol and empty the liquid into a see-through container, then keep it under the sun for some time.
After curing them, you can throw the bottles into the trash, the bottles should be capped tight.
I like to keep my resin bottles just in case I want to make a resin mixture and store it properly. You can mix two resins together to make a new color, or even to give resin better properties such as flexibility or strength.
Printed Upgrades For Resin 3d Printers
After you receive your resin 3D printer, I recommend you look for some upgrades you can print to make your resin 3D printer a bit better.
Dripping mount for the vat
If your printer doesnât already have a way to mount the build plate onto the printer and leave the model to drip all the resin, then I recommend you look for one online and print it.
This will allow you to attach the build plate in an angled position, and then leave it for 10 to 20 minutes for all the resin to start dripping from the top of the plate, and from the model.
Doing this will help you save a bit of resin and will also make the cleaning process a bit easier.
Adding a vat cover is also important because it will help trap most of the resin smell right in the vat, and you will also protect the resin from UV light and dust.
You need a vat cover if you do a print, and then leave the remaining resin inside the vat for the next time.
Usually, itâs not a big issue to keep the unused resin in the vat for a short period of time but if you donât use the printer for longer periods, itâs always a good idea to empty the vat and clean it.
Remember to always stir your resin before starting a new print, to make sure itâs properly mixed. After sitting for a while, you will notice that the resin starts to separate so donât skip this step.

Shrinkage The Accuracy Killer
During the 3D printing process, the resins state changes from liquid to solid this process leads to significant material shrinkage and results in a loss of accuracy. In the worst cases, the print will break off the 3D printing platform and you will have to clean your VAT entirely and restart the process.
Resin manufacturers are aware of this effect, but only premium resins will ensure that the shrinkage is within 100 micron range. Inexpensive resins often contain cheaper raw materials leading to an increase in the amount of volumetric shrinkage and inaccurate printing performance. Inaccuracies can lead to parts being off by over 200 micron making it suitable only for some prototype models. Inaccuracies do not just result from the printing process itself, but also develop over time these are dimensional inaccuracies. Premium resins complete thermosetting shortly after theUV post curing and remain accurate over time. But inexpensive resins come with the risk of becoming unusable by the next day.
What does this mean for me? If the accuracy of your print is not essential, then you might as well opt for a cheaper resin. But for dental applications accuracy is essential. So we recommend you choosepremium 3D print resins.

S For Disposing Of Your Resin & Isopropyl Alcohol Mixture
The simple and easy procedure to dispose of the resin is as follows:
- Get your container of resin and set up your UV light
- Expose the container to the UV light or leave it in sunlight
- Filter out the cured resin
- Dispose of it into the trash when it solidifies
- Reuse the isopropyl alcohol or pour it down the drain.

All the things that come in contact with uncured resin during this whole process should also be exposed to UV light and disposed of with the resin container.
If the isopropyl is mixed with the resin, it should be treated in the same way. When you put the resin-mixed IPA under the sun, the IPA should evaporate and you will get the cured resin to be thrown into your trash.
Its similar to when people reuse their IPA when it has resin mixed with it. They cure the resin & IPA mixture, then filter that IPA into another container and use it again.
IPA that hasnt mixed with resin can be poured down the sink or drain safely. It is quite harsh stuff, so you can dilute it with water and use good ventilation.

When I first decided to try resin printing, the Anycubic Photon was the printer I picked, and I wasn’t disappointed. A few years later, the new low-cost model is the Photon Mono 4K, and as you can tell it has a monochrome 4K screen for high detail and low print times.
The print quality on the Photon Mono 4K is terrific, and, more importantly, it is consistently amazing. In the time I have been using the Photon Mono, the previous version of this, I have had just three failed prints, out of more than 100, and those were user error. Once you have the build plate leveled, and if you don’t move the printer, the Photon will print almost perfect prints continuously.
My biggest complaint about the Photon is my biggest complaint of 3D printers everywhere. It seems like all of the big printer companies got together and decided that putting small resistive touchscreens with poor viewing angles on the front of their products was a good idea. It isn’t by the way it’s a terrible idea and needs to go away as soon as possible. Prusa figured this one out, and so has Creality, waiting for the rest to catch up.

How Does A Resin 3d Printer Work
Every type of resin 3D printing technology cures UV resin, they just differ in how they accomplish this.

Although included in the budget material, this resin could do wonders if used with the right settings. The material comes with both support and without support.
The material is for those who are looking to create colorful models as it is easy to paint over this material after it hardened.
Removing support is also easy. You can use sandpaper or other tools to remove the support manually.
The models are translucent and offer a great depth of detail. Easy to post-process and very common among users with a limited budget.
Is Filament Printing Cheaper Than Resin
Yes, filament printing is cheaper than resin simply because FDM 3D printers are generally less expensive than SLA machines, and that filament can be bought cheaper than resin. There are additional costs with resin 3D printing too that you have to consider, such as purchasing protective gear and curing machines.
SLA 3D printers usually cost more because the quality of prints they produce is on a whole new level as compared to FDM 3D printing. As discussed in the previous section, a 1-liter bottle of standard resin costs about $35.
This is more than the cost of a 1kg filament spool, which can be bought for as low as $20. The costs are usually lesser with FDM 3D printing as you dont necessarily have to purchase any protective equipment.
