Question: Q: Printer Icon Disappeared From Dock

Last night Apple did an update around 2 am. I happened to be up while it was going on, but not using my iMac. This morning when I signed in I noticed that in the dock where my canon printer icon should have been was a big white question mark. No evidence I have a printer connected. How do I remedy this and return the canon icon to the dock. Also, before the update I could actually see the picture images on my desktop, now i can only see that they are there but not the picture itself. I can live with that, but really preferred and found it easier to see the picture images. Thanks.

How To Manage Your Print Queue

Each printer on your system has a print queue. When you print a document, that print job is stored in the print queue before its sent to the printer and finishes printing.

In some cases, you may need to pause your print queue to temporarily cease printing, remove individual jobs from the print queue to cancel printing them, or check that everything has printed. You can do all this from the print queue window.

To open this, head to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, click the printer for which you want to view the queue, and then click Open Print Queue. In the Control Panel interface, you can right-click a printer and select See Whats Printing. You might also see a printer icon in the notification area while printing; clicking the icon also opens the print queue.

Each pending print job appears in the queue. If no documents are printing, the list will be empty. You can right-click a job to cancel, pause, or restart it. Sometimes print jobs can get stuck, and you may need to delete them and try again.

You can also click the Printer menu and use the various options to manage your entire queue. For example, you can click Printer > Pause Printing to temporarily pause all print jobs until you unpause them, or click Printer > Cancel All Documents to cancel all pending print jobs.

Printer icon on desktop keeps going to setup mode. I am already connected to wireless. How do I get my icon back?

Thanks for the post.;

I understand that you are unable to access the printer assistant on your computer, is that right?

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.;

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps on your own?

Are you able to print and copy fine?

Did you change the router recently?

Have you tried to complete the setup when you launch the printer assistant?

The Icon on the desktop of your computer is called printer assistant.

Sometimes if the printer assistant is updated, you would have to reconfigure it.;

The usual option that comes is “setup the device” if the software was updated.;

If you see the option that says set up the device, click on it and complete the setup.

This should resolve the issue you are facing and will be able to use the printer assistant.;

If you are still unable to access the printer assistant, please follow the procedure mentioned below to remove the printer software and settings and install it back.;

Let me know if this helped.;

Where Is My Printer Button I Cannot Print Without Something To Click

  • 2 replies

Firefox used to have the printer icon in the upper right corner…since I have now returned to and made Firefox my default browser it is not there! What to do?

Chosen solution

Hi, there is a Print button on the “application menu” which appears when you click the button with 3 horizontal lines on it, toward the right end of the main toolbar.

If you prefer it on the main toolbar, you can right-click the button and choose Move to Toolbar.

If it’s not there at all, or if you want to reposition it, you can use the customize feature. See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. Available buttons are in the box on that tab, and you can move things around by dragging and dropping them in new locations. If things get mucked up, the Restore Defaults button at the bottom of the customize tab will give you a clean start.

Does that work?

The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+p is another option, especially for popup windows where you only get a partial toolbar.

Hi Alfred,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

There are a couple of different ways to print, depending on the type of app you’re using. For most apps, you’ll use the Devices charm to print. If you’re using a desktop app, you’ll use the printing options that are built into that app.

;Look in the File menu. It’s very common for a Print option to be located in the app’s File menu.;Press Ctrl+P. This might bring up the app’s Print dialog box. ;Look for a print icon or button. App manufacturers commonly put a print icon or button somewhere on the screen.

These are commonly located on a toolbar positioned across the top or bottom of the app.

Also you can find Printer on Device and Printer.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, well be glad to assist you.

have a new computer, how do I get the scanner icon make on my computer.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.;

I understand that you have a new Win10 computer and would like to have the scanner icon on the computer. I read that you’re using the;HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One Printer. I’ll surely help you with this case.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:;

  • Have you already installed the drivers for the printer? If not, then here is the link to download and install the correct Win10 drivers.
  • If the drivers are already installed then is the scanning working otherwise?

Usually, once the printer drivers are installed, you see a printer utility icon on the screen. Opening the icon will provide an option to scan.

There are other apps that you may install on your Win10 PC that will be useful for scanning as well.;

  • Please download and install the HP Scan and Capture app. This is a dedicated all developed by HP to work with Win8 and Win10 operating systems.
  • Alternately, you could use the;Windows Scan app.

I hope this information is useful. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

    OK try this.

    You didn’t say, but I’m assuming you got a new Windows 10 laptop. If you have a different operating system, you may still be able to figure out how to do this from the following.

    You should see an icon for your printer there on the “Devices and Printers” screen. Right-click the icon showing the Canon Pixma MX430. A menu pops open; click “Create shortcut” in that menu. It will say it can’t create a shortcut here and ask if you want it placed on the desktop. You click, of course, Yes.

    Danielle, does that L-shaped bar actually appear on your laptop’s screen? Canon calls that program Quick Menu. I’m not clear from your last post whether you have Quick Menu but it won’t open scanning software, or you don’t have Quick Menu at all and want it. Let me know and I’ll advise you how to proceed.

    Also think back how you got the printer going on your new laptop. Since you don’t have a disk, did you download and install software from Canon? Or did Windows load the driver for the printer without you getting anything from Canon directly? It’s possible you got the wrong program, but I can help you find the right one.
