How Much Can Be 3d Printed With 1 Spool Of Filament

This is because smaller nozzles have a smaller surface area to become clogged and therefore the chance of this occurring is increased, whereas larger nozzles have a larger area to encompass. There is also a reduced window of opportunity for the print to fail as large nozzles print quicker.
Therefore, if you are using a 0.2mm or 0.15mm 3D printer nozzle, it is integral to use high quality 3D printer filament to reduce the chances of clogging. With filaments such as wood- or metal-filled filaments, larger nozzle sizes are necessary as they clog at smaller sizes far more often.
Better for rapid prototyping: For rapid prototyping when the goal is to create a rough, strong prototype quickly, a large nozzle size is ideal and will take less layers to print the part. A 0.8mm nozzle prints roughly 4x as quickly as a 0.4mm nozzle, so if you sell 3D printing services and want to produce more parts or prototypes for clients for whom intricate precision is not a priority, increasing nozzle size can be a very profitable decision.

Prepping The Model For The Printer
The printer that this model would be created with was a Spectrum z510, which has a build area of 10″ x 14″ x 8″. Knowing that, I could see that the helmet would not fit into the printer in a single piece, so I needed to divide the model into pieces I could then easily reassemble. To make the breakdown correctly, I created a box in the same proportion as the build area. I chose to divide the helmet down the middle so I would have a single seam to cover.

Once you scale the helmet to your size, you can use that helmet as a guide for future helmets. Simply open up another helmet that you need to scale and put it next to the “perfect fitting” helmet. Use the “perfect fitting” helmet as a guide to scale up/down the other helmet to the same size.

You Dont Need Massive Printers To Make Helmets
I am super happy with how this helmet looks! I have always wanted a Boba Fett helmet, but I let the excuse of having small printers hold me back. I hope this project proved that you can make amazing things, large or small, on budget-friendly printers. I know that there is a Black Series helmet available for Bobas new helmet, but this one cost about $8 in plastic and now I have more paints to make other cool helmets. Go make something cool with what you have access to, dont wait!

Final Touches And Finished Helmet
And here’s the final results! I was told to lightly wet sand the surface with 2000 grit when I was finished painting, but I haven’t yet as I like the mild diffusion that the surface has. Also, for a bit more ear comfort, I added black felt to both sides of the helmet. If I haven’t mentioned it before, raw prints feel a bit like sandpaper and the tips of my big ears don’t appreciate the feeling after a short while. Hope this has been helpful! As previously mentioned, weve determined that layer height affects the speed and overall printing time of your object, but to what extent. This one, luckily is pretty basic to figure out.
Layer height affects printing time because your print head has to print each layer one by one. A smaller layer height means your object has more layers in total.
If you have a layer height of 0.1mm , then you adjust that layer height to 0.2mm you will have effectively halved the total amount of layers.
As an example, if you had an object that was 100mm high, it would have 1,000 layers at a 0.1mm layer height, and 500 layers for a 0.2mm layer height.
All things being equal, this means halving your layer height, doubles your total printing time.
Lets use a real example of the one and only, 3D Benchy of three different layer heights, 0.3mm, 0.2mm & 0.1mm.
The 0.3mm Benchy takes 1 hour and 7 minutes, with 160 layers in total.
The 0.2mm Benchy takes 1 hour and 35 minutes, with 240 layers in total.
The 0.1mm Benchy takes 2 hours and 56 minutes to print, with 480 individual layers to complete.
The difference between the printing time of the:
- 0.3mm height and 0.2mm height is 41% or 28 minutes
- 0.2mm height and 0.1mm height is 85% or 81 minutes .
- 0.3mm height and 0.1mm height is 162% or 109 minutes .
To illustrate this, I sliced a 3D Benchy at 300% scale which almost fills up the build plate. The differences between printing times for each layer height was huge!

Recommended Maximum Layer Heights For Each Nozzle Size
A general rule is the absolute maximum layer heights you should print with is 80% of the diameter of your 3D printers nozzle. This is the most extreme amount, and typically 50% or less is recommended.
So for a standard 0.4mm nozzle, based on this rule the maximum layer height you should print with would be 0.32mm, though recommended would be 0.2mm or even 0.1mm.
What Style Of 3d Printer Do I Need
