Epson Vs Canon Vs Hp: Copy And Scan Quality
HP models performed the best at reproducing color on plain paper, with smooth transitions and lots of fine detail. The HP Envy 5540 made some of the best-looking copies. Surprisingly, though, the HP OfficeJet 4650 made copies that didn’t quite match the fine details and stronger dark shades of the Envy 5540’s copies. Also, the OfficeJet’s grayscale copies had speckled textures and rough midtone transitions. More disappointing, the quality of black-and-white copies degraded further when using the OfficeJet 4650’s automatic document feeder .
Copies from Canon models had slightly rougher-looking textures than the HP Envy 5540. Still, the Canon TS6020 reproduced colors well, though dark areas lost some details. The MG3620’s copies produced banding, and the lack of transitions had a flattening effect. Also, text looked rougher than in the original.
Of the Epson models, the XP-640 was the best copy machine: Although its copies were lighter than some others, Epson’s all-in-one reproduced smooth transitions in its copies of color graphics. The other two Epson models, however, reproduced the same graphics too darkly.
Color Copies on Plain Paper Winner: HPBest All-in-One for Copies of Color Graphics: Both the HP Envy 5540 and HP OfficeJet 4650 make highly detailed and richly saturated photographic prints on plain paper.
What Kind Of Laser Do You Need
You can break down lasers into four key types, defined by two questions: Is the printer a mono-only laser, or can it do color, too? And, is it only a printer, or an all-in-one model that can print, scan, and copy ? Laser models exist in all four combinations.
“Printer-only” models are well and good they are all about sheer text or business-document output to the exclusion of all else. If all you need is stacks of relatively uncomplicated documents, they’re perfectly fine for that. They fall into two rough classes: inexpensive units meant for homes or student use , and larger models designed for a home office, a small office, or a workgroup .
In contrast, the laser all-in-one is a more varied animal. You can find both monochrome and color laser AIOs, but when you’re talking about a mono laser AIO, there is an inherent mismatch of functionality there. Mono laser AIOs obviously print only in black-and-white, but they can scan in color, as well as make monochrome copies of any kind of source material, like a standard photocopier can. In a sense, the mono laser AIO combines the cost efficiency of a mono laser with the convenience factor that an AIO brings. You just need to know what you’re getting into before you buy one of these.
The Canon imageClass MF424dw all-in-one color laser has an ADF for easy scanning.

Original Equipment Manufacturer Vs Third
Generally speaking, original manufacturer ink cartridges are higher quality than third-party ink carts. What this means in reality is that you’ll pay a little more for them, but they will last a little longer. While the amount of ink in each of them is likely to be identical, there are other factors that increase the efficiency of a cartridge.
OEMs tend to have better ink distribution, so are more efficient, and their parts can be tougher wearing. However, as long as you shop among the more reputable third-party ink cartridges, the difference will be small. And don’t forget that third-party inks are cheaper – often significantly so – which means the lower efficiency could be less of a concern, if you make a big enough saving.
Some third-party companies create refillable cartridges that are compatible with printers that dont use tanks. As a warning on these, though: you dont have the manufacturers quality control, and thats part of what you give up in order to get those savings.

Printing Costs: Instant Ink To The Rescue
Until recently, a downside to entry-level inkjet AIOs is that they cost a fortune to use on a per-page basis. If you choose the conventional method of purchasing ink cartridges as needed when they empty , printing monochrome pages on the Envy 6452 will cost you a whopping 10.3 cents each and color pages an even steeper 22.3 cents.
That’s painfully high, even if it matches the 6455 model. The Brother MFC-J491DW’s cost per page is 6.8 cents for monochrome and 16.8 cents for color. Brother also offers the MFC-J995DW INKvestment Tank All-in-One, which delivers black pages for just under a penny apiece and color pages for about 4.5 cents.
This brings us to HP’s Instant Ink subscription program, where the Envy Pro 6452 itself keeps track of how many pages you print and orders cartridges from HP when it’s time to buy new ones. Designed for low-volume users who print around 50 to 300 pages monthly, the program offers three service levels, with the 300-page plan working out to a cost of 3.5 cents per page. The huge advantage here, though, is that that 3.5-cent cost applies to any page you print, be it a monochrome text page with very little ink coverage, or an 8.5-by-11-inch photo with 100 percent ink coverage.
And, to make Instant Ink even more attractive, HP at this writing was giving you the first two months of your subscription, or 600 pages, for free. Hence, if for the first year you max out your 300-page plan each month, your running costs will reduce to 2.8 cents per page.

All the best HP printers in one place
Ever since HP built the first desktop laser printer – the LaserJet – back in 1984, the company has been producing brilliant devices.

Reasons to avoid
The HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202nw is the first printer to employ a refillable toner tank instead of a disposable cartridge. Its a win for both the environment and your print budget, which could cost as much as 60% less than regular toner cartridges. This inexpensive all-in-one lacks an auto-duplex mode, but for basic monochrome printing and copying duties, it is hard to beat on total cost of ownership. Theres enough black toner in the box for 5,000 pages and refuelling is as simple as injecting the toner from syringe-type canister into the printer.

How We Test All
Every printer we review is extensively tested to determine the performance and output quality. These tests include timed prints of text, mixed text and graphics and color photos. The resulting prints are carefully examined for errors and issues, and compared with samples from other printers to determine the print quality.
We time every test print to see how quickly the machine handles document printing, and closely examine the finished product to determine how well different printing tasks are handled. We also test the scanning and copying functions of the printer, timing how quickly it captures a page and comparing the results to the original images to determine how well it captures color and detail.
To measure the cost of owning and operating a printer, we look at the current street price of ink refills and the estimated number of pages that each cartridge can produce, and calculate the cost for printing a single page.
How To Choose The Best All
Check out all of our printer coverage:
There are several key details to consider when shopping for a new printer. Obviously, you want a printer that performs well, so all of our reviews discuss a printer’s output quality and speed, but there’s more to an all-in-one printer than just churning out documents.
Price: All-in-one printers sell for as little as $60 for inkjet models, and $150 for laser printers, with high-end models costing hundreds of dollars, but offering better print quality, durability and features. And dont forget ink and toner, which can range from 1 to 5 cents per page for basic documents .
Type: Next, it helps to determine the style of printer you need. Inkjet printers are generally better suited to producing the full range of colors, making them better suited to printing graphics and photos. Laser printers, on the other hand, can quickly produce professional looking text documents often at a lower cost per page.
Home or Office: Home and office printers differ greatly in their handling of large print volumes. Some printers are built to offer great quality and value for the home user that prints a few pages a week, while others are built for busy offices where multiple users print dozens or hundreds of pages every day. Find the one thats right for you to avoid paying for features you dont need.

Print Costs And Toner Considerations
Whether you use your inkjet regularly or leave it idle for weeks, you lose a bit of ink whenever you change cartridges or start up the printer and endure its cleaning cycle. The toner in laser cartridges isn’t subject to drying and tends to last longer when left idle, and toner cartridges also tend to last for more pages than most inkjet ones. This should, at least in theory, appeal to both the small office that frequently uses its printer and to the one that prints only intermittently .
The HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1202w all-in-one saves money and reduces its ecological footprint with refillable toner.
Now, lasers typically have a higher up-front cost. Traditionally, they make up for it with greater cartridge efficiencyâi.e., lower printing costs per page. But the rise of high-volume business inkjets has closed the page-cost gap, and depending upon the individual printers being compared, the advantage could now go either way. Some inkjets and lasers support bulk refills and cartridge subscriptions that can reduce the cost of toner and ink.
We discuss cost per page in our laser printer reviews, and factor in any other accessory costs that might apply to an individual unit, such as drums, fusers, transfer rollers, and pick rollers. In some lasers, these parts require periodic replacement, especially in higher-end models. For a heavy-printing office, these numbers are key considerations.
Hp Deskjet 3755 Review: Best Compact All In One
The HP DeskJet 3755 is a superb option for anyone that doesn’t print regularly but still wants all the features of an all in one printer. That mean not only printing but also scanning and copying are available here for a low price in a compact form.
Unlike many printers that offer a flatbed scanner, this uses a 60-page document feeder to get your scans and copies, without taking up the room a flatbed does. As such this is ideal for slipping to the back of a desk, taking up little room, but being ready for those times you do want to print.
Print quality isn’t the best at this price, that’s to be expected. It’s still very capable with clear text printing at a reasonable 7.8 pages per minute and rich color prints at 3.7 pages per minute. Ink isn’t cheap with HP, but since this isn’t for regular use that shouldn’t be too much of an issue and when you consider the low upfront cost it can work out well.

It also has a 35-sheet ADF for automated scanning and copying with a generously large paper tray.

Design & Build Quality
Let me just say right off the bad that the 8035es design definitely puts this model as one of the best-looking printers in the market. And this is a bit of a surprise given that the majority of HPs printers are usually sporting neutral or monochromatic colors. However, the 8035e seems to be an exception to that rule.
The 8035e has a mainly white body with different color accents you can choose from. These accents add a splash of fun and vibrancy to the ADF, paper trays, and display border. There are three different color options available: Coral, Basalt, and Oasis. Depending on how your office setup looks like, you can simply choose a color that complements the rest of your desk so it blends in seamlessly.
As for the build quality, the 8035e feels very sturdy and strong despite the plastic-y chassis. The body doesnt feel cheap at all and in fact, it feels very solid and smooth to the touch. However, its definitely not the lightest printer out there as the 8035e weighs in at 18.4 pounds. So if youre planning to move your printer around a lot, you might find the task a little heavy for you.
