Tips When Printing With Pla:
1. Use a heated bed, if you can
Although not a strict requirement, PLA printing can still benefit from the use of a heated printing bed. This allows you to use an adhesion aid, the most commonly used of which is blue painters tape. Just remember to keep your heated bed settings very low, as you might end up hitting PLAs glass transition temperature which will heavily deform the prints first layer.
2. Store your PLA in vacuum-sealed bags
This advice applies to any type of filament used in 3D printing, but PLA is particularly prone to moisture pickup when exposed to the atmosphere. If you print with a PLA filament that has not been completely dried, your finish print will almost certainly have pock-marked surface caused by the expansion of water within the filament. Worse, this could end up clogging your nozzle, and everyone who has used 3D printers knows how big of a problem that is.
For best results, we recommend storing your spools of PLA filament in individual vacuum-sealed bags. Throw a few packets of desiccant in there as well, for good measure.
3. Finish using sanding and polishing techniques
Unfortunately, theres no option to finish PLA in as easy a manner as that of an acetone vapor bath. Instead, youll need to rely on old-fashioned elbow grease. Start off by sanding away the imperfections with some coarse grit sandpaper, gradually making your way to a finer grit. Once youre satisfied with the results, simply apply a polishing compound to the prints surface.
