Find The Cartridge Number For Your Printer

How To Replace Ink Cartridge On An Epson Printer. EASY Instructions! to change ink.

To find which ink or toner cartridges work with your HP printer, select your printer model in the tables listed below. HP ink and toner cartridges are labeled to help distinguish which cartridges work with selected printers. The ink or toner cartridges are listed according to where the printer was manufactured. Some printers use more than one cartridge. For example, an HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One Printer uses an HP 61 Black ink cartridge, as well as an HP 61 Tri-color ink cartridge.

Individual Hp Ink Cartridges

A set of individual ink cartridges consists of four separate color ink tanks available in black, cyan magenta and yellow.; There are two big differences between these cartridges and the black and tri-color cartridges we just reviewed.; The first difference is the cost savings of replacing each cartridge color separately.; ;Many printer users prefer individual ink cartridges because each color can be replaced as needed.; This ends up being far more cost effective than replacing a tri-color cartridge that needs to be replaced when any color is low.; Another major difference is the location of the printhead.; We mentioned earlier that black and tri-color cartridges have an integrated printhead that is built into the cartridge.; Individual ink cartridges do not have a built-in printhead.; Instead, the printhead is built into the printer.; Both types of printheads work equally well, but its important to note, if you buy a printer with a built-in printhead, it may wear out over time and need to be replaced.; Often the cost of replacing a printhead is more expensive than buying a new printer, so keep that in mind when weighing your printer options.; Routine maintenance will keep your printer and printheads running smoothly.; For some simple cleaning and maintenance tips, check out the HP printhead cleaning section later in this article.

How To Work Out How Many Pages Your Ink / Toner Cartridge Prints

If youd prefer to work out how many pages an ink or toner cartridge prints yourself then heres how.

  • Firstly, youre going to need to find out what the manufacturer says the capacity of your particular printer cartridge is. You can do that by doing a simple search on the TonerGiant website and visiting the product page , you can use our tool above by entering the exact product code of the cartridge , or you can search for that info yourself on;Google.
  • Next, decide which page coverage matches your prints. Have a look at the examples of page coverage that we showed you above the tool and decide what sort of printouts you are going to print or regularly print. Manufacturers page yields are only 5% coverage of ink or toner on an A4 page which equates to a small number of text only paragraphs. If youre printing images or blocks of shaded areas and colour, your coverage will be much higher than 5%
  • Now for the maths
    • Take your page coverage and divide it by 5 ;e.g if your page coverage is 30% then you do 30 divided by 5 = 6
    • Take the manufacturer stated page yield and divide it by the number you calculated above e.g the HP Q6000A Black Toner prints 2500 pages so 2500 divided by 6 = 416.6 pages

Therefore, if you were printing at 30% page coverage and the manufacturer says you can get a maximum of 2500 pages then you will actually only be able to print a maximum of 416.6 pages!

What Ink Does My Printer Use?

Printers are the perfect finish for a home office, allowing users the convenience and ease of use without having to travel or pay to print documents or photos. Owning a printer has countless benefits, though, like any other technology, printers have a few minor caveats. However, dont be dismayed because many common printer problems have easy solutions!

    • What type of printer should you purchase?

    If you are in the market for a printer, then you might be surprised by how many different types of printers there are. Deciding which printer is the right one for you is simple. Are you mostly printing photos and need a good quality printer? You will want an Inkjet printer, which prints slower than other models, but prints high-quality photos. If you print at a high volume and arent printing photos then a LED or laserjet printer is what you want. The LED and laserjet printers dont use ink, like an Inkjet, instead, they use toner which allows users to print high-quality documents quickly. Another thing to consider is whether you need to scan and fax documents in addition to printing. You will want to purchase an All-In-One printer if that is the case. It has streaky lines, colors are missing, and it just all around looks terrible. And, of course, this problem tends to occur when you are in a hurry or when you need to print something important.;

Printers are great, but, if you dont use them frequently, the ink can dry out. Sometimes, this problem can be solved by running your devices print head cleaning utility, but that doesnt always work. Cartridge Not Being Read By Printer

This is usually to do with the chip not being read correctly by the printer and although sometimes there is a fault with the chip there are often other causes.

Has the tape been removed from the chip and or print head? You would be surprised at just how folk can forget to do this.

Is the chip clean? Sometimes even as much as a finger print can cause issues, so wipe the chip head gently with a lint free cloth.

Has it been inserted fully into the carriage? Sometimes it will go in further than you might expect. Sometimes the printer for no reason will not read the chip on the first installation but by removing and reinstalling it will then be read.

    What Is Hp Cartridge Protection

Genuine ink cartridges may come equipped with cartridge protection embedded in their chip. Once you install an ink cartridge, your printer will mark it as protected so that the cartridge can only be used with that printer because it is locked to it. If you had to buy a new printer that uses the same cartridges, you would not be able to use those cartridges in your new printer, since they are locked to the first one. This means that the ink cartridges cannot be refilled, recycled, or remanufactured for use in any another printer, and that they will eventually end up in landfills; they cannot be recycled, and they are not environmentally friendly.

If you are installing original protected ink cartridges that have been remanufactured for further use, you could get the message Protected HP Cartridges Installed displayed on your printer. This means that these cartridges will not work with your printer. They will only work with that one printer they are locked to.

    How Do Thermal Printers Work

Your average home user will probably never own a thermal printer. One of todays primary uses of thermal printers are in businesses or stores that need a POS receipt printer. Some offices may have thermal technology in their fax machine or MFP.

Thermal printers work in one of two ways, for older models heat sensitive paper is used by placing a roll in a container inside the machine and the end of that roll is stuck into a slot. The heat that has built up in the machine reacts with the heat-sensitive paper and the pigments transfer the image to the sheet.

For newer machines, they use ribbon printer cartridges. Inside of the ribbon cartridge there is a waxy material stored inside. When the printer is in use, paper is fed through the a slot located between the print head and a roller and the heat then melts the substance and sticks it onto the paper.

Despite their reputations as solely special use printers, thermal printing does have some distinct advantages. The first advantage is in the price; thermal printers are fairly inexpensive. Second, thermal printers by and large are easy to use. Usually to run a thermal printer it is just a combination of a few buttons and thats all. A third advantage is that they are quiet printers so they wont disturb customers or office co-workers.

Youll Save Money If You Print Mostly Color

If youre asking whether HP instant ink is a good deal, the answer is a resounding: it depends.

In a little over two and a half years, Ive printed 1517 pages. Many of these are full-color prints for photos, labels, and so on. But this has also included a mix of regular black and white documents, too. Thanks to roll-over pages I have avoided extra charges every month except four. Three out of those four months, I printed less than ten over the limit pages; one month I printed an additional 116 pages. So while most months I paid $3 to $4, one month I paid $16 for my excessive page prints

Overall since I joined HP ink Ive spent just under $110. Comparing that to the cost of ink, Im doing well. Since I signed up for the program, HP shipped one black cartridge and two of each color cartridges. Im currently sitting at less than 25% in the existing black cartridge and about 50% of the color cartridges.;The exact ink HP sends isnt for sale, but they describe it as extra high capacity in their FAQ. The closest equivalent I can find for my printer is High Yield cartridges. They sell a full pack for $110, and a color pack for $66. So side by side, Ive received $176 worth of ink and only paid $110. You could try to save money with third-party cartridges, but HP and other printer manufacturers have a long history of fighting their use. And HPs legal text include lines that explain using a third-party cartridge will void the warranty.

What Can Affect Your Page Yield/duty Cycle

How to Check Printer Ink Levels

As mentioned, it;is determined by page coverage. You might buy a cartridge that is capable of lasting 2000 pages at 5% page coverage but, if your average page coverage is higher than that, then youre not going to achieve that amount.

Things such as the amount of text on page, colour, images etc. will all impact on page coverage and, ultimately, the overall yield/cycle of the cartridge, too. But what else might prevent you from getting the stated page yield/duty cycle?

We covered this in a post in May 2014 about how the humidity in your office can affect the performance of your printer. It might cause ink and toner to not print onto the page properly, meaning that you could be wasting a significant;amount each time you print.

    Age of your printer

Older printers are generally less efficient. Advancements in printing technology mean that modern printers will need to use less ink and toner per job than older machines. So if youve got a 10 year old printer, it might be worth considering investing in a new printer.

    Frequency of printing

If you leave your printer idle for long periods, it may have to use small amounts of ink to clean and clear print heads. Frequent printing means that this shouldnt be an issue.

The mode your printer is set to

Also, it is worth remembering that many printers have calibration devices in place that will use small amounts of ink and toner for routine maintenance, often whilst in sleep mode.
