Why Your Hp Printer Won’t Recognize New Ink Cartridge
HP has launched what is called a cartridge protection setting on its genuine ink cartridges. This system locks original ink cartridges into a specific printer so you wont be able to use them with a different printer. If you own an HP OfficeJet Pro 251dw printer and decide to purchase a brand new HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 ink printer that uses the same HP 950 and 951 cartridges, you wont be able to use these cartridges in the new printer since they are locked to your old one. With that being said, you wont be able to refill, recycle, or remanufacture the cartridges for use in a different printer because HP and its cartridge protection system wont allow it.

Can I Use Ink Or Toner Cartridges That Are Not Manufactured By Hp
Some printers, such as HP+ printer models, may require the use of genuine HP ink or toner cartridges. But even if your printer does not require their use, HP still recommends that you use genuine HP ink or toner cartridges, as HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP cartridges or refilled HP cartridges. Further, certain HP printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip or electronic circuitry. These printers use dynamic security measures to block cartridges using a non-HP chip or electronic circuitry. Periodic firmware updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and block cartridges that previously worked. Reused HP chips and electronic circuitry enable the use of reused, remanufactured, and refilled cartridges. For more information on dynamic securityand how to configure online firmware updates, go to www.hp.com/learn/ds. Also, please note that while the use of a non-HP cartridge does not void the HP Limited Warranty or any HP support contract for the printer, any printer or print head failure or damage that is attributable to the use of a non-HP cartridge will not be covered by the Limited Warranty or any such support contract. Hp 952xl Cartridges Vs 952 Cartridges
When purchasing HP ink cartridges, most cartridges have a standard yield or high yield option. While standard cartridges will save you money upfront, the high-yield cartridges are the most cost-effective option overall.
Most HP high yield cartridges provide a better long-term value since they last significantly longer than standard yield cartridges. HP 952 black ink cartridges are designed to print around 1000 pages, while the HP 952XL can print twice that amount.
In general, we always recommend you choose the high-yield printer cartridge options to save money and reduce the frequency youll have to replace your ink.
Where can you buy HP 952 and 952XL ink cartridges? You can always purchase high-quality ink replacements from the manufacturer or online retailers, but you will most often pay a premium to do so. With a reputable third-party seller, like Ink Genie, you can purchase genuine replacement standard and high-yield cartridges at a fraction of the cost of shopping from a manufacturer.

What Is A High Yield Ink Cartridge And Why Do They Cost More
High yield ink cartridges have a higher page yield than standard ink cartridges. You can generally print more pages with this cartridge than a standard cartridge. An HP 940 Black Original Ink Cartridge can print 1000 pages, while the HP 940XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge can print 2200 pages. HP printers can use both standard and high yield ink cartridges, as long as the correct ink cartridge model number is selected.
How Do You Trick Hp Ink Cartridges
Aside from disabling HP cartridge protection, you can also trick HP ink cartridges into working with a different printer. Thus, even though the ink cartridges are already locked on your old printer, you can still use them with a brand new printer with these steps:
1. Remove the new ink cartridge and reload the old ink cartridge back into the printer.
2. Wait for about 10 minutes before you proceed to the next step.
3. Remove the old ink cartridge and install the new ink cartridge again.
Your HP printer should be able to recognize your new ink cartridges by now. If it still doesnt, try these alternative steps instead:
1. Remove the new ink cartridge from the printer.
2. Please turn off your HP printer and detach its power cord for 10 minutes.
3. Reconnect the power cord but dont turn on the power button just yet.
4. Reload the new ink cartridge back into the printer.

How To Install An Hp Ink Cartridge
Installing an HP ink cartridge is slightly different from printer to printer but the basic process is similar for most models. When you open up an HP ink cartridge for the first time, a plastic clip may be cradling the cartridge. Make sure to remove this clip, otherwise the cartridge will not fit in the printer. Not all HP ink cartridges have a plastic clip, but if you own a printer that uses cartridges with a built-in printhead, like the HP 63 series, youll definitely see this clip. Some newer printers, like the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 that we feature in the installation video below, do not use cartridges with a plastic clip, so it all depends on what printer model you have. To remove it, hold the cartridge with one hand and gently pull up on the plastic clip.
A piece of yellow sealing tape can also be found on most new HP ink cartridges that must be removed before installation. This sealing tape covers the vent hole on and the cartridge will not print if it is left on. To remove, just peel the tape away from the end of the cartridge.
If you dont see a piece of tape on the end of the cartridge, do not worry about it. Some HP ink cartridges no longer have a piece of tape.
In the instructions below, we show you how to install an HP 962 ink cartridge in the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 printer. Consult your printer manual or the HP website for installation instructions for your specific printer.

How To Disable Hp Cartridge Protection
Disabling the HP cartridge protection on your printer can be done in a few easy steps. If your printer doesnt come with internet features, heres how to do it.
If your HP printer comes with internet features, however, follow these steps:
What Kind Of Ink Does Hp Use
HP fills their ink cartridges with either pigment-based ink or dye-based ink. Pigment-based ink is commonly used in their black ink cartridges because it is better at printing text. Dye-based ink is often used in their color cartridges because it is better at creating the vibrant colors required for photo printing. For example, the HP 63 black cartridge is filled with pigment ink and the 63 tri-color cartridge is filled with dye-based ink. If you want to know what type of ink your HP cartridges use, you can check the specs table of your specific cartridge series on HPs website.

Can You Use Remanufactured Ink Cartridges In Hp Printers
Remember that printer manufacturers like HP are prohibited by law to prevent you from using compatible or remanufactured cartridges in your printer. Nevertheless, they have successfully got around the rules by devising clever systems like the cartridge protection setting, which renders generic ink cartridges useless.
But you may prefer using generic HP ink cartridges over original HP ink cartridges as they are cheaper while generally offering comparable print results. If such is the case, disable the HP cartridge protection or trick HP ink cartridges using the steps above.
It will depend on what type of other ink cartridge you intend to use on your HP printer. If its a third-party or generic compatible/remanufactured ink cartridge of the same model number, then yes, it will work. Sometimes, you will encounter some error message warning indicating your use of a none-OEM ink cartridge. If this happens, just hit OK to bypass the message and continue printing using your generic ink.
If youre using a different brand, then it wont work. You cant use Canon ink cartridges to replace HP ink cartridges and vice versa. You also cant interchange different ink cartridge models, even if they are from the same brand. Thus, you cant use HP 301 inks in an HP 304 printer even if theyll fit. The printer will display an inks not recognized message and the like, and there/s no way for you to bypass it.
Hp 952 Vs Hp 952xl: A Comparison
The HP 952XL high yield black ink cartridge is designed to print around 2000 pages, which is twice as much as the standard 952 black original ink cartridge.

Choosing between the standard and high yield options doesnt have to be complicated. If it fits your budget, its always best to go with the high yield option for home or office printing. If you dont print regularly and feel a high yield option will go unused, opt for standard. You cant go wrong shopping for HP 952 or 952XL replacement ink cartridges from Ink Genie.
