What Happens When Drivers Are Deleted
A device driver is a piece of software that tells your computers operating system how to communicate with the device its connected to.
For example, to connect to your printer and execute the print command, a printer driver is needed to bridge the gap between the two devices, and deliver the print job to you.
Without the printer driver, your printer is just hardware that doesnt work. Similarly, deleting the printer driver after deleting the printer from your computer renders it inoperative.
However, if you delete the driver, you can undo the deletion using System Restore, from the previous restore point created when you deleted the driver from your computer.
Alternatively, Windows will automatically install the driver on your operating system by searching for it from its extensive library of drivers. If it doesnt find a suitable driver, itll search for a driver online through Windows Update. Otherwise, you can visit the device manufacturers website to find the specific driver for your printer.

Uninstall A Printer Settings App
Open the Settings app and go to the Devices group of settings. Select the Printers & Scanners tab. On this tab, you will see a list of all scanner and printers that have been configured on your system. This will include both connected devices, and offline devices. You dont necessarily need to have the printer connected to your system to remove it but it might be a good idea to do so if you can.
From the list, select the printer you want to uninstall, and click the Remove Device button.
How To Skip Windows Updates
Obviously, you dont want to skip updates forever. Microsoft ensure needed security protections come through these and once the Printer issues on KB5005565 have been fixed, be sure to turn this on.
First, open up the Run and type in services.msc.
In the Services Menu, find Windows Update and right-click it. Open the Properties window and under the General Tab, theres a Startup Type section. Here, we change this to disabled.
Be sure to change this back once the issue has been resolved, or you wont get any future updates and could remain vulnerable!

I liken it to a reformat and reinstall of your computer, except limited to the printer. By uninstalling and then reinstalling it, most settings are re-initialized to their default state, and the driver is configured for the correct, current state of your machine.
As I said, it doesnt fix everything, but it does fix a surprising number of problems. Its a good and generally safe first step when tackling printer issues.

Delete Remnants From The Windows Driver Store
This solution is meant to remove any remnants of drivers that may still be on your device even after deleting driver packages.
In the driver store, youll find inbox and third-party driver packages, which were installed and stored in the folder even before the driver itself got installed.
Each of the subfolders in the store holds a driver package and corresponding .inf file, but its a bit difficult to find the specific driver package youd like to remove.
The good news is you can use a third-party tool to explore the Windows driver store and completely remove the old printer driver once for all. Itll also save you lots of space that would otherwise have been occupied by junk files.
