How to Setup Wireless Network Printer in Windows 10

Each network printer should have one and only one server that provides access to it. This enables the server to manage the access to the printer and keep jobs coherent.

The default device for the network printer is /dev/null. This is sufficient when there is only one queue for the printer. Should more queues be required, set the device to a file. This enables the print system to restrict access to the printer across queues. The following commandscreate a device file and configure it as the network printer device.

Printers are a familiar presence in homes and offices all over the world. To be able to print anything on your printer, you must connect it to your computer and install it. The most common way to do that is by using a USB cable. If you do not know how to do it, this guide is for you: we show how to set up a local printer on any Windows computer using a USB connection. Let’s get started:

NOTE: This guide covers how to install a local printer using Windows 10 and the features that are built into the operating system for adding printers. We also cover how to add a local printer using manual settings and how to install a local printer using the software and drivers provided by its manufacturer . By local printer, we mean the kind of printer you connect directly to your computer through a USB cable. Manual Configuration Using Ip Addresses

You can also manually configure a printer using its Internet Protocol v4 address. This address is either configured manually through the printer’s control panel or set using an automatic network protocol such as the Dynamic Host Control Protocol or ZeroConf.

Note: Configuring a printer using an IP address set using DHCP or ZeroConf is not recommended since the address will change every time the printer is turned on or after long periods of inactivity. Thus, every time the address changes you will need to modify the print queue using the lpadmin command.

Network Printers Using Non

Operating systems other than Windows incorporate slightly different methods to support network printing:

Current versions of macOS have the ability to automatically detect and add certain kinds of printers, with manual configuration options in the Print & Fax section of System Preferences. Older versions of Mac OS X provided a utility called Print Center for setting up printers connected to Mac computers.
Apple AirPrint enables Wi-Fi wireless printing capability on Apple iOS devices, including the iPhone and iPad. AirPrint support requires using a specially manufactured printer of the same brand.
Different Unix and Linux distributions provide generic support for network printing. User interface details differ, but most are based on a common Unix printing mechanism called CUPS.

Invoking The Network Printer Support

The software support for network printers is called through the interface script. Configuring a network printer with the network interface script, netstandard, causes the network printer support module to be called. The command to configure the printer with the network supportis:

lpadmin -p printer_name -m netstandard

Making General Network Settings

Do not turn off the power or unplug the printer while making settings on the control panel.Setting network while accessing the memory card may interrupt access.This setting, and the DNS server/Proxy server address setting, is not available for all printers or may not be enabled.

Turn on the printer.

The default setting is EPSONXXXXXX . To change the printer name, retype the text.

Set TCP/IP Setup settings.

Auto

To assign a unique IP address to the printer, select Manual, and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway.

Set the DNS server. DNS server and proxy server settings are not available for all printers or may not be enabled.

Auto

To specify the DNS server address, select Manual, and enter the Primary DNS Server and Secondary DNS Server addresses.

Setup Wireless Printer And Connect To Network

Most Wireless Printers come with a LCD screen which allows you to go through the initial setup process and connect to WiFi Network.

1. Switch ON the Printer by pressing its Power button.

2. Access Setup Menu on the LCD Panel of the printer.

3. Choose Language, Country, Install Cartridges and Choose your WiFi Network.

4. Enter your WiFi Network Password.

If your printer does not have a LCD screen, you will have to connect the printer to the computer, in order to complete the setup process and connect to WiFi Network.

Get A Wireless Printer

Even if you still print, you dont need a separate printer connected to every computer in your house. Many new printers are network printers that can connect to your network via Wi-Fi. Once connected, you install the appropriate driver software on each computer and all the computers can print to that printer over the network.

Unlike sharing a local printer with Windows, you dont have to leave the main computer on as long as the printer is on, you can print directly to it.

These printers only allow you to print to them over the local network, so youll need some other tricks if you want to print to them over the Internet.

Connect The Printer Using Wi

Use the Wi-Fi Protected Setup button on your router to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

Place the printer near the Wi-Fi router.

Put the printer in WPS connection mode.

Most printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash.

HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold theWi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes.

Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins.

Wait for the Wireless light or bar on the printer to stop flashing. The printer is now connected to the network.

How To Add A Local Printer In Windows 10 Using The Operating System’s Built

To double-check and see whether your printer was installed correctly or to add a local printer manually, open the Settings app. A quick way to do that is to click or tap on the Start Menu’s Settings button or to press Windows + I on your keyboard.

In the Settings app, open the Devices section. You can notice that the description says “Bluetooth, printers, mouse.” The printers are the part that interests us.

Next, select Printers & scanners on the left side of the window to access the section with the same name on the right. There, you see the printers that are already installed by Windows 10. Some are virtual printers, like software converters to the PDF format, or screenshot capturing apps like Snagit.

Now there are two possibilities:

The printer that you connected to the computer has already been installed by Windows 10, or
The printer that you connected has not been installed

If you find yourself in the first situation, you are done: go ahead and use your printer. If you find yourself in the second situation, you do not see your printer displayed. Turn on the printer, and then click or tap the “Add a printer or scanner” button.

When done, the progress bar disappears. You can then see, in the list of printers and scanners, that the local printer has been added to your Windows 10 PC.

If The Printer That Your Want To Add Is Not Listed

Follow the steps below, in case Windows 10 is unable to list the printer that you wanted to add.

1. Go to Settings > Devices> Printers & Scanners in the left pane. In the right-pane, click on Add a Printer or Scanner option.

2. Allow Windows to start searching for Printers and click on The Printer that I want isnt listed.

3.On the next screen, you will see various other options that you can try to find your printer.

Select a Shared Printer by Name This option is usually helpful in work environments, where you can go ahead and enter the full path to the printer as provided by your network administrator.

Add a Bluetooth, Wireless or Network Discoverable printer Makes Windows 10 to perform another scan to find the printer.

Add a Local Printer or Network Printer with manual settings This option is useful in case you have a printer that uses a serial or parallel port .

How To Connect Your Printer To The Network

How to Share Printer on Network (Share Printer in-between Computers) Easy

Once you have confirmed that the network settings are enabled on the device, make sure that the printer/MFP is connected to the network by:

Ethernet cable from the printer directly to the router/hub. Usually used in a small or home office.
Ethernet cable from the printer to a wall port. Usually in a business premises .
Via Wi-Fi to a router if this connection method is supported.

Once connected and powered on, check for the connection indicator lights near the network connection into the back of the printer, if you can see the lights, the machine is communicating with the hub/router.

At this stage, you can generally just run the installation process using the disc or downloadable drivers from your PC. These can usually be found on the manufacturers website. Part of the installation process performs a search for the device on the network, which means that it should be detected automatically, and the correct drivers installed.

It is also possible to add the printer using the add a printer wizard on Windows using its assigned IP address. You can check the assigned IP address of the machine by printing a network configuration report from the control panel.

If you need to set a static IP address on the machine you can change the auto IP setting on the machine to static. If you are on a large network, you may wish to check with your IT team as they may well have a preferred method of assigning IP addresses and can provide you with the correct one.
