This is probably the easiest step in this whole tutorial. If youve got the printer connected to a PC and that PC is sharing the printer as part of a Homegroup, all you have to do is make sure that other PCs on the network are also joined to the Homegroup. You can use the same process we went over in Step One to get them joined. When PCs are part of the same Homegroup, Windows will automatically connect to any printers shared from other PCs. Theyll just show up in your Devices and Printers window automatically and any PC in the Homegroup can print to them. Super simple.

How to setup a shared network printer in Windows Server 2019

Believe it or not, Chromebooks are capable of printing to network printers, even without the help of Google Cloud Print. To connect to a network printer, said printer will have to:

    • Be on the same network as the Chromebook

    • Be reachable via IP address

To set this up, open the Chromebook Settings app and type printing in the search field. In the resulting window , click Add Printer.

    Figure A

Adding a new printer from within the Chromebook Settings window.

In the manual printer popup , give the new printer a name, type the IP address of the printer, select IPP from the Protocol drop-down, leave the default Queue, and click Add.

    Figure B

    The manual printer addition window.

Once Chrome OS has detected the printer, it will be added and you’re ready to print.

That was easy. And you don’t have to stress about losing Google Cloud Print.

As long as you have a printer connected to your network, you should be able to get this working. It does, however, help if the printer in question was supported by Google Cloud Print. So before this service goes away, I’d suggest purchasing a printer or two that are found on this list.
