I’m having some issues with my Canon Pixma IP1900 printer – it doesn’t respond to any OS requests. I am using Windows 7 x64 with additional Canon drivers and the printer used to work ok, but recently it doesn’t anymore.
I’ve connected it to a second PC running on Win7 x86 and no additional Canon drivers and the printer worked again – not only did Windows find appropriate drivers all by itself, but everything else did work like a charm as well.
Now I assume that the problem is either the drivers or the OS itself. My idea is to completely remove Canon drivers and any data associated with the printer. How do I do it?
Take a look at this tutorial which explains how to use the Microsoft Management Console , to remove unwanted printer driver packages.

Delete Remnants From The Windows Driver Store
This solution is meant to remove any remnants of drivers that may still be on your device even after deleting driver packages.
In the driver store, youll find inbox and third-party driver packages, which were installed and stored in the folder even before the driver itself got installed.
Each of the subfolders in the store holds a driver package and corresponding .inf file, but its a bit difficult to find the specific driver package youd like to remove.
The good news is you can use a third-party tool to explore the Windows driver store and completely remove the old printer driver once for all. Itll also save you lots of space that would otherwise have been occupied by junk files.

A few network printers have been removed from the print server and I wish to automatically remove them by a script from any client still referencing them preferably, I would like to really know which printers I’m deleting in those cases and automatically connect an appropriate replacement printer. This would not be difficult if I could read the list of such defunct printers in the first place.
The situation in the GUI is that the printers still show up under “Devices and printers” with the printer symbol showing only the default printer icon, being greyed out, and a yellow warning triangle shown next to it. But the printer does not get listed e.g. by the WMI query “SELECT * FROM Win32_Printer”. Is there any other query that would succeed for this?
