Add A Printer To Your Printer List So You Can Use It On Mac
To use a printer, you must add it to your list of printers using Printers & Scanners preferences.

Set The Default Printer
Set your printer as default on your Windows 10 computer to make sure print and scan jobs use the correct printer.
In Windows, search for and open Printers & scanners.
Make sure the box next to Let Windows manage my default printer is not checked.
From the list of printers, click your printer name, and then click Manage. If there are multiple printer names that match yours, select the printer that is idle or online.
Under Manage your device, click Set as default.

Update Your Drivers And Firmware
As with all technology, it helps to begin your troubleshooting journey by updating all the relevant software. Head to your printer manufacturer’s websitewhether it’s HP, Brother, or someone elseand search for your printer’s model number in the support section.
Download and install the latest driver, software package, and/or firmware update to ensure every link in the chain is as up-to-date as possible. If you’re having connection issues, it’s possible one of those updates fixed it somewhere along the line since you bought the printer.
Check Windows Function Discovery Services
If your printer uses a WSD port, make sure Function Discovery services start automatically and are currently running.
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel, and then click View devices and printers.
Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, and then click the Ports tab.
Look for a WSD port in the list.
If there is no WSD port, do not continue with these steps. Print a Network Configuration page, and then create a manual IP connection in the printer EWS and add a Standard TCP/IP printer port in Windows.
If there is a WSD port, make sure the check box is selected, and then continue with these steps.
In Windows, search for and open Services
Find Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication in the list.
For both, make sure the Status is Running and Startup Type is Automatic.
If one or both items has a Manual Startup Type or is not running, right-click the item, select Properties, change the Startup Type to Automatic, click Apply, click Start, and then click OK.

If a network printer you want to use isnt in the list of available printers, you can add it as an IP printer. The printer must support one of these printing protocols: AirPrint, HP Jetdirect , Line Printer Daemon , or Internet Printing Protocol .
Note: Some printers connected using these generic protocols may offer limited functionality.
You must know the network printers IP address or host name, printing protocol, and model number or printer software name. If it uses a special queue, you also need to know the queue name. See the person who manages the printer or server for assistance.
On your Mac, update your software : Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Software Update , then install any software updates listed. Even if no updates appear, this ensures that macOS has the latest information about printer software it can download from Apple. If you dont do this, you may see a message that software isnt available when you connect your printer.
If you have an AirPrint printer, you dont need to check for software updates.

If this won’t help try reinstalling printer , Can you access printer from your computer? In explorer, select Network in the left tree and double click on Printer, if it is there..Also, HP has HP Print and scan doctor, or something like that.
When my HP Envy does that…I just power off the printer and turn it back on. Then whatever I was trying to print…prints. It doesn’t happen every time just once in a blue moon if I haven’t printed anything with it in a while.
