To Install Or Add A Network Wireless Or Bluetooth Printer
If your printer is on and connected to the network, Windows should find it easily. Available printers can include all printers on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless printers or printers that are plugged into another computer and shared on the network. You might need permission to install some printers.
Select Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners .
Next to Add a printer or scanner, select Add device. Wait for it to find nearby printers, then choose the one you want to use, and select Add device.
If your printer isn’t in the list, next to The printer that I want isn’t listed, select Add manually, and then follow the instructions to add it manually using one of the options.
If you use wireless access points, extenders or multiple wireless routers with separate SSIDs, you’ll need to ensure that you’re connected to the same network as the printer for your PC to find and install it.
If you have a new wireless printer that hasnt been added to your home network, read the instructions that came with the printer, and check the printer manufacturers website to learn more and to get up-to-date software for your printer.

Troubleshoot Installing Printers In Windows 10
Now you probably wouldnt be on this site if everything went so well as shown above, so lets talk about some of the problems that can occur. Firstly, what if nothing shows up in the list of printers?
The first thing to do is click on that The printer that I want isnt listed link. This will bring up the Find a Printer dialog.
You should start out with the first option as that will perform another scan, but with different methods to detect different kinds of printers.
If youre in an office environment of some sort with a shared printer, you can go ahead and enter the full path to the printer, which youll need to get from your administrator. The Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname option is basically the previous post I wrote about printers, which I linked to at the top of this article.
The last option, Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings, is basically if you have a printer that still uses a serial or parallel port. The Add a Bluetooth, wireless or network discoverable printer is the main dialog that comes up when you click on Add a Printer and it will just perform another normal scan.
If none of the options above work for you, it could be a problem with the printing system on your Windows 10 machine. The next option is to run the printer troubleshooter. You can click on Start, type in printer troubleshoot and then click on Find and Fix Printing Problems.

Manage Printers In Windows 10
To get to the Control Panel printer manager, click on Devices and Printers. I still find this interface more familiar since its been around since Windows XP.
Youll see a list of all your printers and other devices that may be on the network. The other way is to click on Start, then Settings and then click on Devices.
Theres really no reason for there to be two ways to do this, but thats just how it is currently in Windows 10. You can pick either way and youll get all the same options, so it doesnt really matter.

Physical Printer And Cable Checks
Check both ends of the USB cable are firmly inserted. If the printer is networked then make sure the Ethernet cable is firmly inserted. If the printer is wireless check your internet connection or make sure its connected to your router.
If youre connected by cable try using the end of the printer cable in multiple ports or sockets on your device.
Try using a different cable to make sure the fault is not with the cable alone. If youre on a network or wireless device a simple check would be to attach a cable to your computer/or device to make sure your printer is working. Therefore the fault could be with your network connection.
