What Printers Are The Most Capable

The Canon Pixma TR8620 prints excellent-quality photos, with rich colors and sharp details, and it sits on top of our list of the best all in one printers because it’s so versatile.

If you’re looking for a good compact printer, with the ability to print a good photo too… you’re probably looking at the HP OfficeJet All In One 250 – a very versatile printer, and one that will print documents on the go, via a WiFi connection.

The Epson EcoTank ET-2720 may have ranked toward the bottom of our all in one printer lineup but not for its photos. The photo print quality is quite good, if slow, and Epsons EcoTank design makes for extremely affordable inks.

The HP Envy 6055 All-in-One was held back by slow printing and an expensive tri-color ink cartridge, but its photo printing was very good, with good color quality and detail and a reasonably quick speed of 1.3 photos per minute.

These four printers produce photos with above-average quality, with good color accuracy, sharp detail and no minor issues to speak of. These graded scores are based on both a blind ranking of several print samples and close inspection of each print under high magnification.

Of course, if you want an actual photo printer, our top model is the Canon PIXMA PRO-100, which is a specialized model.

Printing Photos With A Laser Printer

When it comes to printing photos with a laser printer, the devil is in the detail.

Although somewhat maligned in the past for their generally inferior photo printing capabilities, modern laser printers can deliver fantastic results. In order to create superb looking photo results that can even surpass those created by an inkjet counterpart, certain considerations must be made.

Making the right paper choice can be pivotal in creating the best results.

With a dizzying array of paper types on the market, it can be difficult to know where to start. Broadly speaking, however, printer paper can fall into two categories.

Inkjet paper types are designed specifically for inkjet printers. Produced with a coating designed to receive sprayed ink droplets, inkjet paper types are unable to withstand the high temperatures that accompanies laser printing.

Laser printer paper, also known as digital paper is designed to endure the high temperatures created by the fuser unit in order to bond the toner particles to the paper. Untreated paper types are less likely to withstand these conditions, leading to potential image degradation in the final print.

Glossy photo paper specifically designed for laser printing is an essential purchase in order to produce quality photo prints.

Once you have the most suitable paper for the job, choosing the correct printer set up is the next step in creating the best possible photo prints.

How To Load Glossy Paper Into A Printer

When you print photos for business projects or brochures, you want professional-quality images and sharp, vibrant colors. Unlike regular printer paper, glossy paper is thick enough to support the amount of ink used when printing photos. This type of paper often has one glossy side and one matte side. To print your photos on the glossy side, you need to load the paper into your printer correctly. Correct loading also ensures that the paper doesn’t get stuck or jammed as it goes through the printer.

      Step 1

Make a stack of up to 25 sheets of glossy paper, depending on thickness. Fan the paper, then tap the stack on a flat surface a few times to even out the pages.

      Step 2

Turn the paper so the glossy side faces up. Feed the stack of paper into the paper support. Do not force the paper into the printer. If the stack of paper is too thick to fit, remove a few sheets and try to load it again.

      Step 3

Move the paper guides to the edges of the paper. For some printers, when you move one paper guide, the other moves accordingly.
