Even if you still print, you dont need a separate printer connected to every computer in your house. Many new printers are network printers that can connect to your network via Wi-Fi. Once connected, you install the appropriate driver software on each computer and all the computers can print to that printer over the network.

Unlike sharing a local printer with Windows, you dont have to leave the main computer on as long as the printer is on, you can print directly to it.

These printers only allow you to print to them over the local network, so youll need some other tricks if you want to print to them over the Internet.

Printing To Another Network Printer

I am a newbie in networking. I have two network and would like to allow 1 pc on another network to print to a printer on a another. Below is my description.

Network 1:

goal: to allow xp desktop to print to network 2 printer.

network 2:

192.168.3.1 -> gateway

I have added the following entry but the xp workstation cannot see or unable to add the printer by standard tcp.

Does the router connect to a switch? What type of switch if it does. You have setup mulitiple ip addresses under a single interface, that will not work. You will need to create subinterfaces under E0 which is called ” a router on a stick”, other wise you will need to have a layer 3 switch and create the vlans in the switch.

Yes I have an HP 8 ports switch connected to this router. The switch then downlinks to 3 of the network switches and computers.

Can that HP switch do trunking? If it can then you would need to do the following to achieve what you are requesting:

1. You would need to create two or three vlans.

2. Trunk the connection between each switch

3. Configure the workstaions in the correct vlans on each switch

Else you would need to get a different router or additional network interfaces on the router you have.

Use A Vpn To Access Printers On Remote Networks

If you want to access standard network printers or printers shared via Windows networking when youre away from the local network, you can use a virtual private network, or VPN. Accessing Printer On Different Network

I have two fibre broadband connections into my house from 2 ISP’s

Connection A and Connection B – Both have their own ISP supplied routers with both WiFi and Ethernet.

I have an HP Envy 6200 printer.

Most of the “household” devices are connected via WiFi to Router A.

My main office machine is connected via Ethernet to Router B. The HP printer is also connected to Router B.

How can I enable it so all the devices connected to Router A can print to the printer on Router B ?

Any ideas would be much appreciated – Many thanks.

I can think of multiple ways to solve this. Solutions requiring to physical changes in your topology:

• Forward the printers port on Router B to the router and use the public IP address of Router B in your LAN behind router A. This is probably not the best idea depending on the authentication support of your printer and only works if youre not behind CG-NAT!
• Maybe you can tunnel the printer into the network behind router A e.g. using VPN.

How To Share A Printer On The Network In Windows 10

In order to share the printer connected to your Windows 10 PC with the network, you must first open the Settings app. A quick way to do it is to click or tap on its button from the Start Menu.

In the Settings app, open the Devices category.

On the left sidebar of the Devices category, select the Printer & scanners tab.

On the right side of the window, select the printer that you want to share on the network.

When you select your printer, a few buttons are displayed: click or tap on Manage.

Install A Copy Of The Printer

You now have all the information you need to install the printer a second time. This creates a new virtual device in Windows, one that points at the same physical printer but has its own printing preferences.

How To Manage Additional Printers

While the additional printers you add will show up as options in the Print dialog, they dont appear normally in the Devices and Printers window, or in the new Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners interface on Windows 10. Windows automatically combines them together in these printer management interfaces, which is a little inconvenient.

You can still see the alternate printers from the normal printer configuration window, if you like. For example, to see the secondary printer in the Devices and Settings window, right-click the physical printer and youll see options for each installed printer device.

In the Windows 10 Settings interface, click the Manage button for a printer and youll be able to switch between the printer profiles youve installed to change settings for each.

You can manage these devices a bit more easily by pressing Windows + R to open the Run dialog, copy-pasting the following line into it, and pressing Enter:
