Printing is not built in to the Apple portable devices, but there are at least two Apps that allow you to print directly from the Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch. In this article I’ll describe the iPad to printer method that is most likely to work for most people.

All methods of printing from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch are wireless. That is, these printing methods use either WiFi, Bluetooth, or the 3G celluar network to transmit your print job to the printer. In other articles, I’ll describe the methods that use Bluetooth and 3G to print. In this article I’ll describe a simple, inexpensive WiFi method that uses WiFi to print from your iPod, iPhone, or iPod Touch to your printer.

There are lots of ways to connect a printer to an iPhone. The simplest is with Apple’s own AirPrint feature. There’s no AirPrint app to downloadit’s all built-in and ready to go.

Just check Apple’s list of AirPrint-compatible printers. If yours is there, all you need to do is make sure it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad. You won’t need to add the printer, as it should show up automatically on your device.

Some iOS apps don’t include a printing feature, so you will need to export the selected content. To do this, save the document to the Files app. The Files app allows you to print to AirPrint. If the original app does not allow you to export the content, you can screenshot it and print it as a photo.
