Why Is My Printer Not Listed As A Destination
Check the printer connection to the network, or manually add it to HP Print for Chrome with the IP address.
Check the printer network connection status.
Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Touch the Wireless icon or open the Network Settings or Setup menu to view the network connection status.
Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press the Wireless and Information buttons at the same time, or press the Wireless and Start Copy Black buttons at the same time. A Wireless Test Report prints with the network connection status.
The printer connection status should be Connected or Ready. If it is not, continue with these steps to connect your printer to the network.
Connect the printer to the network.
Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the instructions to connect the printer to your network.
Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons at the same time until the Power light blinks, and then wait for the Wireless light to blink. Within two hours, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins. The Wireless light on the printer stops blinking when the connection completes.
If the printer is connected but is still not listed as a destination, continue with these steps to connect with the printer IP address.
In the HP Print for Chrome box, click Details.

How To Set Up An Hp Printer To Use With Your Chromebook

Chromebooks and printing have a historically painful relationship. More specifically, users finding a printer that works with Chrome OS and setting up that printer has long been one of the biggest hurdles Chromebook owners. For years, this meant finding a printer that supported Google Cloud Print or setting up a second computer as a print server for your Chromebook. Unfortunately, Google Cloud Print will soon be no more. As of December 31, 2020, Googles wireless printing protocol will be retired and that has sent many Chromebook users into a tizzy as they scramble to find a viable printing alternative.
Thankfully, printing on Chrome OS has come a long way over the past couple of years. In some instances, setting up a wireless printer and using it with a Chromebook is actually easier than it is on other operating systems. This is due, in part, to the fact that Chromebooks dont need to download drivers or install applications to access network printers. Today, were going to take a look at just how easy it is to set up an HP all-in-one printer on your wireless network with just your smartphone. Once were done, your Chromebook will automatically see the printer and you will be able to print without any extra applications, extensions, or plugins. Check out this video to see how its done.

Set Up A Classic Network
If your printer is connected to your computer via USB or a local access network, these are the instructions youll need to set up access via Google Print.
1. Launch Google Chrome on the computer attached to the same network as the printer. Make sure you are signed into your Google account within Chrome as on the Chromebook.

4. Type “cloud print” into the search field.
5. Select Manage Cloud Print devices.
6.. This will allow you to connect your Google Account to the Google Print service.
8. Select Manage Your Printers. This will take you to Google Print.
9. Select Printers from the menu on the left. Here youll see a list of printers connected to the computer you are using.
When you print something from the Chrome browser, these printers will appear as output destinations.

Select from the following options and settings in the Preview window.
Add another page by tapping + Add.
Tap and drag the images to reorder multi-page scans.
Tap the Menu icon to edit, replace, or delete the scanned items.
Tap the Rotate icon to rotate the item.
Select the file type, either Basic PDF to save as a single file or Image to save the scans separately.
Select an option to save, print, share, or fax the scan file.

So, this past weekend it happened. I actually needed to scan a document to send via email to someone. I didnt have access to a digital version of the document so I was left to my own devices in figuring out a lower-tech way to get it to onto the web. I had my trusty Chromebook and a network-connected HP All-in-one 6500 series printer.
Some printer/scanners have the capability to scan directly to email and thats a very useful feature but I honestly couldnt figure out how to do so on this printer. Chrome OS doesnt have a native scanning option and the only viable Chrome app is pretty hit or miss on what devices it will work.
I distinctly remember conversations in the past about this subject and this method never came up but it works great and is super simple. After searching the web for a bit, I came across a support article from HP about their Embedded Web Server. Many of you may know this already but it was new to me and I was crazy thankful to have found it. The caveat here is that this works with HP All-in-one printers. Other devices and other manufactures are still a mystery to me. I did try this method on a Brother All-in-on and it did not work.
Back at your Chromebook simply enter the IP address in the omnibox and hit enter. You should be greeted with something that looks like this.

How To Connect Your Brother Machine To A Chromebook Computer On A Wireless Network
Before you start, you will need to gather the following information about your wireless network in order to connect your machine:1. The SSID or Network Name of your router or access point2. Set Up Your Printer With A Usb Cable
If your printer is older and doesnt support Wi-Fi connections, you can set up your printer using a USB cable. However, this method may not work on older printers because you cant install software or drivers on a Chromebook.
Step 1: Connect your printers USB cable to the appropriate port on the Chromebook. You may need a USB-A to USB-C adapter, depending on the Chromebook model. Also, verify that the printer is on and functioning normally.
Step 2: Once plugged in, click the system clock located on the bottom right corner, followed by the cog icon on the pop-up menu. This opens the Settings window.
Step 3: Click the down arrow next to Advanced to expand the menu.
Step 4: Click Printing on the expanded menu.
Step 5: Click the Printers option on the right.
Step 6: Chrome OS should detect and list your printer. Click Save and itll be automatically moved to the Your Saved Printers category and set as your default.

How To Register A Printer With Google
In order to register a printer with Google, you will need the following:
To make this clearer to you, there is really no way to connect a Chromebook to a printer. Hence, you will need a regular Windows computer that is connected to a printer, in order to complete this step.

- Insert the USB cable in the HDMI column of the Chromebook and connect the other end to the printer.
- Make sure the difference between the two devices is not much.
- Now command your data you want to print by Ctrl + P. This is the keyboard shortcut for print command.

What If Your Printer Isnt Compatible
If Chrome OS doesnt have a driver for your printer, so some searching to see if theres a compatible printer that Chrome OS does know about. For example, it turns out my HP Color Laserjet 1215 is compatible with both the HP Color Laserjet 1600 and Color Laserjet 2600n. Unfortunately, neither of those two printers are supported right now either. So Im out of luck with that printer, at least for now.
You can try the HP Print for Chrome app, which may support some printers that Chrome OS doesnt directly support. HP provides a list of printers.
Some printers just arent compatible with anything other than Windows. They may not work on a Mac either, let alone a Chromebook. If youre going to print from operating systems other than Windows, you really want a printer that speaks PCL, Postscript, or both. Those types of printers will work with anything. Yes, I can even make those printers work with an Amiga or a Commodore 64, let alone a Chromebook.
Thats why I like old office printers, even for home use. I could plug an HP Laserjet 4 from the early 1990s into a Jetdirect box and make a Chromebook print to it. You might as well pick up something a little newer, like a 4100 or 4200 series printer. But with upgraded memory and a network card, these printers are still nice. I expect to get another 5-10 years out of mine. Who knew Chromebooks and HP Laserjets would be such a nice match?
