How Does A Wireless Usb Hub Work
The wireless USB hub converts the transmission of its connected USB devices to wireless signals that are made available to the network. It can be useful for sharing your peripheral devices but also has issues that make it a less attractive option than USB over Network software.
One limitation is that the hub needs to be located in close proximity to a power source. It also needs to be within range of your wireless router and demands some configuration before it can be implemented. Finally, you are constrained by the number of ports supported by the hub. Sharing numerous devices will, therefore, require the use of multiple hubs.
After considering the various methods that can be used with hardware or software to enable wireless USB connectivity, the software option offers important advantages. USB Network Gate is a more flexible solution that does not limit you to the number of devices that are shared or impose distance limitations of any kind. Your USB devices can be shared with any network-connected user no matter where they are located. Any of these methods may work for your particular scenario. USB Network Gate gives you an effective means of sharing USB devices wirelessly without any of the limitations that are found in the hardware solutions.

Limit Or Disable Network Printing
Having an unprotected printer connected to your home or company network is like leaving an unlocked door to your room or office. So, make sure to review and disable anything that involves printing over the internet. This includes configuring your network settings so that your printer only answers commands that come via your network router.
Depending on your printer model, this can be done by:
- Pressing the wifi button on the printer itself
- Finding and turning off the wireless printing setting via the printer’s control panel
- Disabling printing over HTTP in your Windows registry settings
Also, dont forget to turn off your printer when youre not using it if theres no connection, attackers cant compromise your network.

Plug Into A Wireless Print Server
If your printer has a USB port, you can plug in a wireless print server, a small box into which you can connect your printer. The advantage of investing in a print server is that you don’t have to connect the printer to a PC, which means you can use your laptop and print anywhere in your home.
We found plenty of print servers in the $50 range onNewegg.com, although many of the models cost closer to $75 or $100). Before you buy, make sure the print server is compatible with your printer .
During the setup, you will have to plug the printer into the printer server, and connect that to the router using an Ethernet cable. Meanwhile, you’ll have to install software on your computer and configure the connection, as you would when setting up a router.
Buy A Bluetooth Adapter
Almost every manufacturer sells an optional Bluetooth adapter, although they won’t necessarily work with the model you’re using. These units, which include a dongle for your notebook and a piece that attaches to the printer itself, usually cost about $40.
The benefit of connecting via Bluetooth is that if you have a simpler phone without Wi-Fi, you can still send files and pictures to the printer via Bluetooth . The trade-off is that older Bluetooth products, that use Version 1.1 or 1.2, have a rated range of 10 meters , which is shorter than your router or Wi-Fi-enabled notebook’s range. The longer the range, of course, the more options you have when it comes time to find homes for your printer and laptop.

How To Make A Printer Wireless
So you have yourself a wireless network and a printer. The printer is not wireless. The challenge is that you would like to print over the wireless network from any computer connected to your network either wired or wirelessly. How do do it?
The answer is quite simple and the logic behind it is quite sound. No matter what the make or model the printer is, you can simply send print jobs to it through the wireless network by connecting it to a computer that is always on and share the printer from that machine.
I will be using good old Windows XP as the client and print server to show you how it works. It will be a little more complicated on Windows 7 or Vista but if you have your share permissions down, it should be easy.
First things first. Make sure that you have the same username and password set up on the machine you want to use as your print server and the machine you are going to print from. This is required so that you can communicate with the other machine. Once you have the machines’ usernames and passwords synced up, you can turn to the machine with the printer attached to it.
From this machine , we will need to set up the printer on it . Test that you can print and the output is what you expected. Then we will need to go to Printers and Faxes in the control panel.
You need to right click on the printer that you want to share and choose properties like so:
You will want to name the printer something memorable. I called mine HP1100

Despite this however, they have proven to be less than effective weapons.
Update Your Drivers And Firmware
As with all technology, it helps to begin your troubleshooting journey by updating all the relevant software. Head to your printer manufacturer’s websitewhether it’s HP, Brother, or someone elseand search for your printer’s model number in the support section.
Download and install the latest driver, software package, and/or firmware update to ensure every link in the chain is as up-to-date as possible. If you’re having connection issues, it’s possible one of those updates fixed it somewhere along the line since you bought the printer.
