Installing Ink Cartridges in Your Inkjet Printer | Inkjet Printers | @HPSupport

Before installing a new set of cartridges, you need to confirm that you have the correct colors for your machine. This particular printer series can take both a high yield and the standard yield cartridge. Most consumers prefer to go with the higher yield cartridge because it yields quite a bit more ink. It is generally a better deal in the long run, especially if you purchase an aftermarket cartridge. You will need to have all of the cartridge colors installed in order for the printer to function. The HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 uses HP 962 ink cartridges which come in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. The black is physically larger than the other color cartridges.

Step 1: Make sure your printer is on. Lift the scanner bed to open your printer.

Warning: Do not move the printhead by hand, or it can damage your printer. Do not touch the flat white cable inside the printer as well.

If you are installing the ink cartridge on a brand new printer, be sure to remove the placeholder plastic tabs before you try to install the ink cartridges.

Step 2: Open the cartridge cover.

If you are replacing an empty cartridge, be sure to remove the old cartridges before starting.

Step 3: Squeeze the tab on the cartridge and lift the cartridge to remove it.

Step 4: Take your new ink cartridge out of the packaging. Remove the plastic protective case and the cartridge tape, which is usually bright in color.

Step 5: Follow the color patterns on your printer when installing.

Step 6: Insert the new cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place.

Step 7: If it does not fit in easily, check to make sure you have it the right way up and insert it into the correct slot.

Step 8: Be careful not to touch the gold contact points, or it may damage the cartridge.

Step 9: Install the other colors the same way you installed the first one. Close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place.

Replacing Cartridges In The Hp Deskjet 2655 Printer

A brand new HP DeskJet 2655 includes HP 65 black and tri-color set-up cartridges. The HP 65 cartridge series are sold in a standard yield size and a high yield, or XL size, which offers more ink and you will need to have both cartridges installed in your printer in order for it to function properly.

How to Check Ink Levels on the Deskjet 2655

If you are getting poor print results, the first thing youll want to do is check the ink levels on your printers display. The ink levels for the color cartridge are on the left side of the screen and the levels for the black cartridge are on the right. If one of the cartridge levels is low, like the black is here, its time to replace!

Preparing a New Cartridge

I like to prep new cartridges over a trashcan because sometimes a little bit of ink can escape when I am unwrapping them. Dont forget to remove the orange tape on the top of the cartridge.

Gently pull on the tape to remove, this will expose the vent hole on the cartridge so it can work properly in your machine.

Avoid touching the gold contact chip when handling the new cartridge. This chip is very sensitive and it may not read properly if residue or fingerprint oil gets on those contact points.

Now that the cartridge is prepped, you are ready to install!

Installing a New Cartridge

Once youve opened up the second door, wait for the cartridges to center. The black cartridge is on the right side and the tri-color cartridge is on the left.

Why You Want To Disable Hp Cartridge Protection

It makes no sense to have such a restrictive cartridge system. Some of the reasons why you may want to disable the HP cartridge protection include:

  • Youll be prohibited to use refilled or remanufactured HP ink cartridges
  • You wont be able to use the ink cartridges on a new printer if they have already been loaded to your old one.
  • You cant recycle your ink cartridges which means they will end up as trash once they are empty
  • HPs cartridge protection setting can sometimes work against brand new genuine or started cartridges as reported by some users.

Fortunately, theres a way to disable HP cartridge protection and make generic ink cartridges work on your printer. And the good news is its relatively easy to do on your own even without any technical know-how.

Troubleshooting Common Hp 63 Issues

A cartridge error message in the middle of a print job can be incredibly frustrating. Luckily, a couple of easy troubleshooting steps will get around most of these messages. Well review a few of the common concerns here so you can move past them quickly and meet your deadline.

Compatibility Error Messages

If you recently installed a new cartridge and your printers display reads Compatibility Error or Ink Cartridge Error, inspect the contact points on the cartridge. Occasionally dried ink, fingerprint oil or tape residue can end up on the gold and copper contacts of the cartridge during the manufacturing process, preventing it from being read properly in the machine. To remove the residue, use a lint free cloth or coffee filter and gently wipe down the contact points.

Then, pop the cartridge back in the printer, reset the machine and try printing again.

If you attempt to print and still get an error message, it may be a faulty cartridge. Faulty cartridges are a rare occurrence, but always a possibility. Test a second cartridge and see if you get the same result. If the second cartridge works, then your first cartridge was probably defective. To avoid further frustration with a faulty cartridge, be sure to buy cartridges with a generous guarantee. LD brand cartridges are backed by a lifetime guarantee and original HP cartridges are good until the warranty ends date on the side of the cartridge.
