How To Set Up Your Printer

Follow these instructions to set up your wireless printer. Some printers use a wired connection and can be set up with as little as an Ethernet cable, while other printers can connect to the wireless network provided via your Shaw wireless modem. While the specific setup may vary from one model of printer to another, the information for connecting a printer to your home network can be found below and used in conjunction with the setup guide provided by your printer’s manufacturer.

  • Unpack your printer and follow the included instructions. Each printer will have a distinct set-up process.
  • If your printer has an Ethernet cable option, we recommend connecting it directly to your Shaw modem or wireless router for optimal performance and ease of use.
  • Follow the included manufacturers instructions for a wireless connection
  • Why Wont My Canon Printer Connect To My Wireless Connection

If you have tried the above methods for making a wireless connection for your Canon printer and still havent managed to sync up, there are a few different causes that could be at fault.

Here are some of the things that may be preventing you from making a good connection to your wireless network:

    • The connection between the network and the printer has been lost. This issue can often be resolved by simply powering down each component, waiting for ten seconds, and then powering them back up before re-syncing the two.
    • The printer is not powered on. Even if the printer is plugged in, it needs to be powered up before it can receive a wireless signal.
    • Ensure that both your digital camera or PC and your wireless printer are synced to the same network. If you accidentally sync your input device and your wireless printer to different networks, they wont be able to find each other.
    • Make sure that the printer driver is connected to the correct port on your PC. If the printer driver is synced to the wrong port, this can cause connectivity issues.

If you continue to have problems setting up a wireless connection between your router and your wireless printer, you can contact Canons technical support team for a more detailed walk-through on how to get your printer and your wireless network properly synced. Before contacting them, ensure that the router is working correctly for your other devices.

What You Need To Know Before Connecting Your Printer To Wi

Connect an HP Printer to a Wireless Network Using Wi

The hype would have you believe that wireless printing is as simple as unboxing a new Wi-Fi enabled printer, connecting it to your network and then hitting the print button from an application on your PC.

It is often not this simple.

Before you can print to your wireless printer from Windows, two things need to be done.

  • The printer needs to be connected to your Wi-Fi network
  • You need to detect and connect to the printer from Windows
  • Neither of these processes is particularly difficult, although they differ depending on the printer manufacturer.

Before proceeding, ensure your printer powered up, has ink, and at least a few sheets of paper loaded. Also, remember that while manufacturer instructions are generally the same across their own models, some differences may occur.

Restoring Network Settings To Factory Default

If you need to reset your network settings back to factory default, for example if you change your access point, you can do so by following these instructions.

Please note that initialisation erases all network settings on the machine, so printing or scanning from a computer over the network will become impossible until the printer is re-configured with new network settings.

Follow the procedure below to initialise the network settings:

    1. Press and hold the button until the alarm lamp flashes 17 times.

Connect A Printer To Windows 10

Different printers have their own set-up processes for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Consult your owner’s manual to see how to get started.

Tip: You might need to update to the latest version of Windows 10 to make sure you have up-to-date driver support.

    Wi-Fi printers

Windows 10 should easily find any printer connected to the same local network via Wi-Fi.

Go to the Start menu and click Settings, Devices, then Printers & scanners. Select Add a printer or scanner and wait for your printer to appear in the list, then select it and hit Add device.

If Windows doesn’t find your printer, select The printer that I want isn’t listed and follow the instructions.

Another solution could be to plug the printer into your laptop or desktop with a USB cable. This can force the computer to recognise the printer and install the drivers. After it’s done, unplug the printer from USB and see if your computer continues to detect it.

If Windows doesn’t already have them, the printer drivers should download and install. If not, you can get them from the manufacturer’s website.

    Bluetooth printers

First, make sure your printer is open to new Bluetooth pairings. Check your owner’s manual for instructions.

To enable Bluetooth on your Windows computer, click the notification icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and check that Bluetooth is toggled on. You might have to click Expand to see the Bluetooth control.

    Wps Push Button Method

Some wireless routers will have a WPS Push Button, which is essentially a wireless printer sync. While not all wireless routers will have this technical feature, those that do are much easier to connect to a wireless printer.

To connect a wireless printer to a wireless network using the WPS Push Button, perform the following operation:

  • Hold down the Wi-Fi button on the router until it flashes.
  • Press the Start Button and then the Wi-Fi button again.
  • Wait for the Wi-Fi router to begin flashing. Once the Wi-Fi router is flashing, and the ON button is lit up, press down the WPS button.
  • The wireless router will indicate a sync with the wireless printer by lighting up the ON button and the Wi-Fi indicator at the same time.
  • If the wireless sync fails, press the STOP button, and try the sync again.

This isnt an option available for all wireless routers, but its worth taking a look at your router to see if it is available when you get ready to set up your wireless printer. It can end up saving you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Troubleshoot a Wireless Printer Connection | HP Printers | @HPSupport

Theres no one single way of setting up a wireless printer. The major printer brands Brother, Canon, Epson, and HP, among others all use different steps to set up their printers on Wi-Fi networks or via Bluetooth. Even within the same brand, the way you get started changes from product to product.

The best advice is to consult your printers product or user manual. If you cant find yours, try searching for it online using the exact product name, which should be somewhere on the printer, either printed directly on the case or on a sticker. Only download user manuals from the manufacturers website.
