    Checking The Printer Status

    Caution:
    • Don’t pause printing or respond to any on-screen, low ink messages when your printer is in the middle of a print job. This may cause your printer to pause and leave an uneven surface on your printout. If your ink is running low, wait until printing finishes before checking ink levels or attempting to replace a cartridge. If you must replace an ink cartridge in the middle of a print job, the quality of your printout may decline. For best results, check your ink levels and replace ink cartridges, if necessary, before printing large or high-resolution print jobs.

How To View Your Recent Print History

Even though your printers queue lets you view print jobs, its limited to recent documents. If you want a complete log of all recently printed documents, youre out of luck. You cant count on your printers queue for this.

But luckily, theres a workaround. Instead of going to your printers queue, you can turn to the Event Manager.

    • First, press the Windows key, search for Run, then launch the app.
    • Type in eventvwr.msc. Then click OK. Doing this will confirm the action and run the task.

This grants access to the Event Viewer. This program allows you to access event logs on a remote machine.

While using Runis easy, there is an alternative. That is to launch Event Viewer directly from the start menu.

    • Press the Windows key, search for the program, and press enter.
    • There, select Applications and Services Logs.
    • Next up is to select Microsoft. Then go with Windows.
    • Once you expand Windows, you will reveal lots of items. Fortunately, this list is alphabetical and therefore makes the hunt easy. So scroll down to P and find PrintService. Then select this option.
    • Choose Operational. Right-click on it and from the selection, go with Properties.
    • There, go to the General tab. Look for Enable logging. Beside it is a box for that allows relevant information to be recorded.
    • Once youre done, click Apply. Then hit OK to save the changes and close the window.

From this point on, you will have a record of future print jobs.Anytime you want, you can view this record.

    Check That Paper Is Installed

I’m going to guess you’ve already ensured paper is in the tray, but just in case: put paper in the tray. Sometimes, though, printers are finickythere may be paper loaded, but if the printer can’t grab hold, it’s going to think it’s empty. Try removing the paper tray, re-aligning the paper, and sliding it back in.

In other instances, there may be some paper jammed in the mechanism. Usually your printer will tell you so, and you just need to open the access panel and pull the crumpled paper out.

The command prompt must be run as administrator, since it requires administrative privileges to access the print queue folder.
