Why Might The Address Change
The West Quad uses dynamic IP addressing. This means thatrather than assigning a single IP address to each new computer, which wouldremain unchanged for the life of the machine, it maintains a pool of IPaddresses which are shared by all computers on a ‘need-to-use’ basis. Therefore, if you disconnect the computer from the network, its IP address maybe recycled, and given to another computer. On the other hand, it may not. There’s no way to tell. This technique allows the West Quad to squeeze as muchuse as possible out of a limited set of IP addresses.
Often, you won’t care what your IP address is. However, theIP address is how we specify which printer to use. If it changes, then we need to reconfigure our owncomputers. For this reason, try to avoid turning off the printer if at allpossible.

Why The Ip Changed
Your wireless printer is probably enabled with Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP. Most networked devices, including computers and printers, are DHCP-enabled by default, meaning that they obtain their IP from a DHCP server usually a router for a temporary period of time, referred to as a DHCP lease. At the end of the lease period, which could be several days, the printer requests a new IP from the DHCP server. If you dont have a lot of devices in your company network, the printer might receive the same IP address again, but theres no guarantee. The DHCP server can assign any available IP address it wants.
