- tutorialby Codrut Neagu published on 10.30.2020
There are many people who need to install a printer in their home network. Suppose you are planning to buy one soon. In that case, you should consider a wireless printer, as it allows you to print from anywhere in your home and helps you eliminate one more wire. It lets you place your printer in an easy-to-access place, keeping it from disturbing when youre working or playing on your Windows 10 PC. One thing to keep in mind, though: installing and configuring a Wi-Fi printer requires a bit more work than installing a traditional printer using a USB cable. However, you should have no issues if you go through all the steps in this tutorial:
NOTE: We created this tutorial using a Canon Pixma MX535 printer. Although some of the installation steps might differ depending on what wireless printer you want to hook up, the basics we cover in this guide are the same for all Wi-Fi network printers.

Yes, online drivers are available for downloading so you will not need an actual installation disk. I am unsure of which model of printer you are working with and operating system, therefore, I am going to post you the direct link to the drivers page.
You will need to input your printers model number and follow the steps from there until you see your driver.
If you are unable to find the driver, please let me know your model number and OS and I will be happy to find it for you!

To Install Or Add A Network Wireless Or Bluetooth Printer
If your printer is on and connected to the network, Windows should find it easily. Available printers can include all printers on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless printers or printers that are plugged into another computer and shared on the network. You might need permission to install some printers.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.Open Printers & scanners settings
Select Add a printer or scanner. Wait for it to find nearby printers, then choose the one you want to use, and select Add device.
If your printer isn’t in the list, select The printer that I want isn’t listed, and then follow the instructions to add it manually using one of the options.
If you use wireless access points, extenders or multiple wireless routers with separate SSIDs, you’ll need to ensure that you’re connected to the same network as the printer for your PC to find and install it.
If you have a new wireless printer that hasnt been added to your home network, read the instructions that came with the printer, and check the printer manufacturers website to learn more and to get up-to-date software for your printer.

How To Connect A Wireless Printer To Your Home Network
At this point, there are three common alternatives:
Accessing the Wireless LAN setup menu on a Wi-Fi printer
1. Connect the wireless printer to your home network by entering the networks name, also known as the SSID, and its password in the printers configuration options. This choice only works if your wireless printer has a screen and buttons, which you can use to type the network information directly on the printer.Select the Wi-Fi connection and go through your printers setup wizard. You probably have security enabled on your router. In that case, you should be asked to select the network and enter the password . After you finish entering all the details, the printer starts the connection procedure. Unless you have an out-of-the-ordinary setup , the Wi-Fi connection should be established in a couple of seconds.
2. Connect the wireless printer to your home network by pressing the WPS button on the printer and the router. First, you have to press the WPS button found on your router to turn on the discovery of new devices. Then, push the WPS button on the printer too. The wireless printer automatically detects and connects to your Wi-Fi network without having to enter the network password or other details. Even if you shut down your printer or your router, they remember their configuration and should connect as soon as you turn them back on.

Unpack Your Wireless Printer And Place It Within Your Routers Broadcast Range
Unpack your printer and put it somewhere close enough to your Wi-Fi router so that it receives a good radio signal. Furthermore, the spot you choose should be accessible to people using the printer. Pay attention to the instructions in the wireless printers manual regarding the removal of all packaging and protection. Printers usually come in really rich packaging and are filled with stickers, tapes, and other protections.

Also, your router should broadcast its signal using the 2.4 GHz band, using the Wi-Fi 4 standard. Older printers may not be compatible with new routers that use the Wi-Fi 6 standard on the 2.4 GHz band, instead of the Wi-Fi 4 thats compatible with any device that can connect to a wireless network.

Check That The Printer Is Connected To The Wi
If you encounter issues, check your printers manual for troubleshooting instructions and look at your routers configuration for any settings that could block your printers connection to the network.
To double-check that everything is okay, you can ask the printer to print its network configuration details. There you can see important details such as its MAC address, the IP address received from your router, and other details.

How To Connect A Wireless Printer To A Wi
Before you can connect a wireless printer to Windows 10, you must connect the printer to your wireless network. The instructions to connect your wireless printer to the network may be different depending on the manufacturer, but usually, newer printers can automatically detect and configure these settings automatically.
For example, on a wireless HP printer, you can do this in the device screen going to Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings, turning on the Wireless settings and using the Wireless Setup Wizard to complete the task.
If youre using an Ethernet connection is even easier, because there isnt any setup to go through. The only thing you need to know is the IP address assigned to your printer, which you can get on an HP printer going to Setup > Network Setup > Ethernet Settings and using the View Ethernet Details.
You can always check with your printer manufacturers support website to get more accurate instructions for your printer.

note:If the printer name does not display, you might be out of range of the HP wireless direct signal. Move your computer and printer closer together.

Install Optional Drivers Manually
If a device driver couldnt be installed automatically, there may be an optional driver available that your printer can use. You can check by following the steps below:
Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
Select Check for updates at the top of the page.
After the check is complete, select Advanced options, then select Optional updates.
Select Driver updates if available.
Select a checkbox next to a driver that’s associated with the device you’re attempting to install.
Note: If you didn’t find an optional driver that works for your printer, you might need to download and install the driver from the printer manufacturers website.
Most printers require that you install the latest printer driver so that the printer will work well. If you recently upgraded from an earlier version of Windows, your printer driver might work with the previous version but might not work well or at all with Windows 10. Also, if you’ve experienced power outages, computer viruses, or other problems, your printer driver might be damaged. Downloading and installing the latest printer driver can often resolve these problems.
