If the Add Printer option doesnt display your printer, youre going to have to add it manually. This is all done through your Chromebook, but make sure that the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network and, once again, that youre using the same network for your Chromebook and printer.
I Followed The Steps But Its Still Not Working
- Make sure your Chromebook and your printer are on the SAME wifi network
- Double check the IP address that you entereddont use the subnet mask or IP gateway
- Try switching the protocol to HTTPS

Release Channels And Updates

Chrome OS uses the same release system as Google Chrome: there are three distinct channels: Stable, Beta, and Developer preview . The stable channel is updated with features and fixes that have been thoroughly tested in the Beta channel, and the Beta channel is updated approximately once a month with stable and complete features from the Developer channel. New ideas get tested in the Developer channel, which can be very unstable at times. A fourth canary channel was confirmed to exist by Google Developer Francois Beaufort and hacker Kenny Strawn, by entering the Chrome OS shell in developer mode, typing the command shell to access the bash shell, and finally entering the command update_engine_client -channel canary-channel -update. It is possible to return to the verified boot mode after entering the canary channel, but the channel updater disappears and the only way to return to another channel is using the “powerwash” factory reset.

How To Find Your Chromebook Printer Settings
Finding your Chromebook printer settings is a simple affair. It doesnt matter whether your Chromebook has been manufactured by Acer or Samsung, and as long as your Chrome OS is relatively up-to-date, the process will be the same.
First, go to the Chrome menu, reachable by pressing the three little dots next to your profile picture. In the menu, select settings. In the settings area, scroll/swipe all the way down and find a button for Advanced Settings. Once in this panel, go to Printer Settings or in some versions simply Printers.
Youll notice that in order to set up a printer, you need to know its IP address .
Heres how to do that:

If your school is closed due to COVID-19 and you brought your Chromebook home, you would probably like to connect it to your printer.
No problem!
You can now print directly from a Chromebook to most modern wifi-equipped printers.

Experimental: Enable Native Cups Printing
As of March 2017, local printing is still an experiment and is hidden until you enable it. Go to the chrome://flags URL in your Chromebooks browser, look for Enable Native CUPS, and click the Enable link below the setting. This adds support for long-time standard Unix-style print standardsthe CUPS system that uses IPP to your Chromebook.
Once Native CUPS is enabled, youll see a new Printers option in your Chrome settings above the standard Google Cloud Print option.
Select Manage, and a nicely-designed Material Design version of printer settings appears, with the option to Add Printer. Youll need to know the IP address, configured protocol, and queue settings for your printer. After you enter this information, if your device isnt found, you can also select your printer from a long list of manufacturers and models, or browse to choose your own driver.
Now, when you print, your file goes from your device to the printer over your local network.

Setting Up A Printer With A Usb Cable
You can always set up a printer with a USB cable in case you cant connect it wirelessly. If your printer is older, this is probably the best way to go.
The process is pretty much the same as the wireless method. The only difference is that you need to connect the printer with a USB cable. Your laptop should recognize the printer right away, and you can continue with the process of adding it.

Chromebook How To: Scan With Hp All
May 22, 2017 By Gabriel Brangers
So, this past weekend it happened. I actually needed to scan a document to send via email to someone. I didnt have access to a digital version of the document so I was left to my own devices in figuring out a lower-tech way to get it to onto the web. I had my trusty Chromebook and a network-connected HP All-in-one 6500 series printer.
Some printer/scanners have the capability to scan directly to email and thats a very useful feature but I honestly couldnt figure out how to do so on this printer. Chrome OS doesnt have a native scanning option and the only viable Chrome app is pretty hit or miss on what devices it will work.
I distinctly remember conversations in the past about this subject and this method never came up but it works great and is super simple. After searching the web for a bit, I came across a support article from HP about their Embedded Web Server. Many of you may know this already but it was new to me and I was crazy thankful to have found it. The caveat here is that this works with HP All-in-one printers. Other devices and other manufactures are still a mystery to me. I did try this method on a Brother All-in-on and it did not work.
Back at your Chromebook simply enter the IP address in the omnibox and hit enter. You should be greeted with something that looks like this.

Material Design And App Runtime For Chrome
Although the has been available on Chrome OS since 2010, there originally were few Native Client apps available, and most Chrome OS apps were still web apps. This, along with the broadening selection of Chromebooks, provided an interesting future for Chrome OS.
At the same time, Google was also moving towards the then-new Material Designdesign language for its products, which it would bring to its web products as well as Android Lollipop. One of the first Material Design items to come to Chrome OS was a new default wallpaper, though Google did release some screenshots of a Material Design experiment for Chrome OS that never made it into the stable version.

Setting Up A Wireless Printer On A Chromebook
Lets start by connecting your Chromebook to a wireless printer. The most important thing to remember is that your Chromebook and printer have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Now, follow these steps to add a wireless printer to your Chromebook:
In most cases, the process goes smoothly. However, if youre experiencing issues with saving your printer, you can try some advanced settings.
In case you cant find your printer on the list of models and manufacturers, you can specify its PPD . All you have to do is click on Browse on the pop-up screen, next to the Or specify your printer PPD.
Also, you can add your printer manually by adding all of the information yourself. You can type its name, IP address, protocol, and queue. However, if youre trying to connect to a public printer, like in a school or a workplace, you might need to ask the administrator first.
