To Install Or Add A Network Wireless Or Bluetooth Printer
If your printer is on and connected to the network, Windows should find it easily. Available printers can include all printers on a network, such as Bluetooth and wireless printers or printers that are plugged into another computer and shared on the network. You might need permission to install some printers.
Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.Open Printers & scanners settings
Select Add a printer or scanner. Wait for it to find nearby printers, then choose the one you want to use, and select Add device.
If your printer isn’t in the list, select The printer that I want isn’t listed, and then follow the instructions to add it manually using one of the options.
If you use wireless access points, extenders or multiple wireless routers with separate SSIDs, you’ll need to ensure that you’re connected to the same network as the printer for your PC to find and install it.
If you have a new wireless printer that hasnt been added to your home network, read the instructions that came with the printer, and check the printer manufacturers website to learn more and to get up-to-date software for your printer.
Download And Extract Print Drivers
Go to the printer manufacturer website. Download & extract the printer driver software to a location that’s easily accessible on your device .
HP Printer – Click on Software and Drivers -> enter printer name under Enter your HP product name -> select Find. Expand the + next to the Driver-Universal Printer Driver heading -> Download. Locate the file – right click -> Extract All.
Konica Printer – Type in the Konica model -> select magnifying glass to search for the model printer driver. Select Drivers-Universal Printer to the right -> Windows 10 -> choose the file with a .zip extension at the end -> OK . Locate the file -> right click -> Extract All.
Additional Settings To Manage
With your printer attached to your Windows 10 PC there are some additional settings that can be managed you might be interested in.
The first is the Allow Windows to manage my default printer option. When enabled this will give Windows 10 the permission to set your default printer to be whatever you used most recently at your current location. This could help easily switch between a home and an office printer, for example.
You also have the Download over metered connections option. If you regularly work on cellular connections or have data caps to consider, you can disable this to ensure Windows 10 doesnt download any new drivers or device software until youre connected to a non-metered Wi-Fi network.

It’s a pretty easy process as long as your printer isn’t ancient
Just got a new wireless or network printer for your home or office and need to install it on Windows 10? Compared to the old days, adding printers in Windows nowadays is usually a pretty easy process, as long as the printer isnt ancient.
Ive actually already talked about installing printers before, but my previous article was focused on manually adding a network printer using the IP address. Thats actually a last resort option in case you cant get the printer installed automatically by Windows 10 first.
Before we get started, lets talk about how to manage printers in Windows 10, because that has become a bit confusing. In Windows 10, you can add/remove/manage printers from the Control Panel or the Settings app.
How To Install An Older Printer To Windows 10
Out-of-the-box Windows 10 does a pretty good job detecting and installing wireless as well as locally connected printers automatically. However, there are still times when you may run into problems if you’re trying to add an old printer. This is not just because the device may not be supported anymore, but also because the OS now lacks basic drivers for printers and scanners.
If you or your company is still dealing with an old dot matrix, inkjet, or laser printer , which Windows 10 refuses to detect automatically, there are a number of ways to continue using the device if you’re up to the challenge to use the advanced setup options or workaround to install non-compatible drivers.
In this Windows 10 guide, we’ll walk you through several scenarios to help install an older printer that isn’t getting detected, refuses to install, or it’s no longer compatible.

Most wireless printers support Wi-Fi Direct, which lets you connect it to your PC directly even when a local network is unavailable. The printer serves as a Wi-Fi access point. After establishing peer-to-peer connection via Wi-Fi Direct, you can access the printers Web-based setup page and complete the network configuration. If your printer has a LCD screen, the on-screen Wi-Fi setup wizard lets you connect to your router much easier. Once your wireless printer is connected, you can add or install it on any Windows 10 computers you want to print from.

Troubleshooting A Missing Printer
Of course, a printer doesn’t always install as it should. It may not appear at all in the list of available printers, or you might get a message that Windows can’t connect to it. The first steps would be to make sure of the basics.
That means ensuring the printer is on and connected to the same network as the PC to which you want it added. You should also check that print sharing is enabled on the computer to which it’s attached. For a home network, that would be the computer on which you installed the printer’s software.
From here, you have two options. Either click the option “The printer that I want isn’t listed,” located directly below the list of printers discovered in the connected device search, or run the troubleshooter.
One thing to know: Just because you don’t see a printer doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Some IT departments hide the names of all printers by default. Although IT likely has good reasons for doing so, hidden printers can be an impediment when there is a legitimate need for someone to connect to a particular one. There are other issues that may prevent you from seeing an accessible printer, too.
Your Printer Is Now Ready For Action
Hopefully, this guide has successfully walked you through the simple steps of setting up your printer. While printing in the home might not be as popular nowadays thanks to the ease of online sharing, it’s always handy to have one around.
Unfortunately, while setting up a printer in Windows 10 is simple, printers are some of the most problematic computer devices. Whether it’s constantly running out of ink, getting jammed, or refusing to print anything at all, not being able to print is a nightmare. If you run into any issues, be sure to reach out to your device manufacturer for support.

Who wants a cable running from their printer to their PC? Its a lot more convenient to have a wireless connection. Just note that both your printer and PC will need to support compatible versions of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for this to work setting all of that up is outside the scope of this guide. Were going to focus on Wi-Fi, but the steps are similar for Bluetooth-capable printers.
1. Make sure your devices are on the same network. Theres nothing quite like troubleshooting printer errors only to discover the only problem was that the printer was connected to the Toms Hardware Rules network and the PC was connected to the Toms Hardware Rocks network. Its much easier to check that first.
2. This button should appear directly above the list of currently available printers, scanners, and fax machines. Clicking it will make a progress indicator and drop-down menu appear.
3. The original Add device button you clicked to discover this printer should be replaced by a Refresh button. If your printer was found you can now click the new Add device button that appears next to it in the list of discovered devices.
4. Enter a password, PIN, or other authentication method if prompted. Some printers will require authentication before theyll connect to devices on the same Wi-Fi network. The default information usually appears somewhere on the printers box, case, or a test sheet printed when its first set up. In our case we werent prompted for anything.

A printer can connect to a network on either an Ethernet or Wi-Fi local area network , or you can connect it directly via USB to a computer on the network. Either connection type can be shared with other users on the network by enabling print sharing on the server or on the computer to which the USB printer is connected.
Windows’ “Add a printer or scanner” wizard is accessible from the “Printers & scanners” section in the Settings Control Panel. The specific details vary between Windows versions, but the procedure is pretty much the same.
